Showing 1 - 1 of 1 review | Child Support

Posted by Marina | June 11, 2018 | Hired Attorney | Child Support

VERY expensive communication and no progress, rip off

I'm a single mother of 3 with a medium financial situation. I hired Marne to establish child support paperwork for my son. Her retain was $1500 and she initially made me feel confidence by saying "I'm very generous with my billing. Over the next month she emailed me a handful of times asking me detai...ls about my son's situation. Despite me asking her many times "whats the status, have you filed paperwork with the court", she kept replying "I plan on working on your paperwork next week". At the end of the month I received a bill stating $1000 was used out of my $1500 retainer and that she needed another $1000 from me to continue working on my case, despite her not working on my case all month. The explanation of billing was, she used $1000 on emailing me, without actual progress on paperwork. She did not explain her portion of cost for the case, she did not make any progress on paperwork, I felt like I got ripped off by the end of the month. I certainly do not recommend this lawyer to anyone who wants to see their money put to good use, she did not accomplish anything at all.

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
