AVOID
Extremely disappointing. After receiving my $5,000+ retainer, I was essentially ghosted. Then, the retainer was exhausted in less than two weeks with little to show for it. I was never kept informed about the work being done. Be aware that once you sign, all niceties are ogone and even routine emails...
I do not recognize the facts presented in this anonymous review, but I can say with confidence that the only way to exhaust a $5000 retainer in two weeks . to engage in significant interaction with a client, generally due to rapid preparation for an immediate court appearance or acquisition of a Domestic Violence Protection Order, or something equally momentous and consequential. I am always honest with clients about the labor-intensive nature of such cases and my billing practices are explained in the fee agreement that all clients sign. As this is an anonymous review, I can't ascertain who this client is or why he/she feels I did not meet their expectations. Based on the date of the review and the amount of the retainer, I am suspicious of the veracity of this review as the allegations don't align with my billing practices or standard retainers charged by my firm.

Hire ANYONE but Stephanie
Completely unprepared, had basic facts and information wrong and then tried to spread the false info to others. When she was corrected with evidence she completely had no case. Demeanor is angry and combative with her clients. Never seen anything like this , she took everything personally.
The content of this review leads me to believe it was written by an opposing party, not someone I represented. The assertion that I "completely had no case" is significant. As an attorney, the only "case" I ever have is the one my client presents to me. Some cases are stronger than others, and I always provide an honest assessment of the strength of the case at the time of consultation. The strength of EVERY case depends on complete candor from my clients. All cases are prepared not only by me, but by an entire team of devoted professionals. We pride ourselves in preparation for each hearing, motion, and pleading filed on behalf of our clients, and the preparation always involves active participation from clients. Nothing is filed without approval of clients. Hearings are, almost without exception, affidavit-based, sworn to by clients under penalty of perjury. Due to this, it is virtually impossible to go before a commissioner or judge with erroneous information. I stand by my team and our method, and I impress upon all clients the importance of truthfulness. All attorneys are bound by a code of ethics, and I have never been found to be in violation.

Do not hire Stephanie Powell!
If I could give a 0 star I would. She doesn't care about you, your family, or your case, only payments. I paid her and her firm over $12,000 for nothing. She talked down to me and threatened me if I ever got upset with her and her firms actions. I desperately tried to rehire her after my new attorne...
Please take note that this client hired new counsel months before his scheduled trial. I had been separated from his case prior to completion of any discovery, mediation, and who knows what other significant events, as I was inexplicably replaced me with new counsel in the very early days of this divorce litigation . I also don't know why his new counsel backed out on the eve of trial -- most courts don't allow attorneys to withdraw (especially if the client objects to the withdrawal) shortly before trial. I do recall this client reaching out to me days before his trial, but I could not possibly be expected to represent him at trial having been uninvolved with the case for months leading up to that point. Trial preparation takes several weeks when an attorney has been actively representing a party from the outset. It is impossible to rejoin an intensely litigated matter and successfully try the case before a court law. I have great empathy for this client, and I'm sorry his trial went poorly. However, I do not accept blame for the poor result. I was not actively involved in this case through most of its progression, and what happened at trial is not a result of my representation.

Didn't bother to learn my case and often got names and facts wrong in the courtroom
Stephanie and her firm pressured me not to object to continuance after continuance, stretching the case over 2 years. She did nothing to prepare me for trial and didn't even know the specifics of my case. She would file motions with other people's names, reassured me that the case would never go to t...
I always give clients a choice to object to a requested continuance, even if I ultimately feel the case is not ready for trial. I have, on many occasions, objected to requests for continuances that a client did not want. Sometimes I'm successful; sometimes a court feels the continuance is necessary. There are often many moving parts in family law litigation -- two attorneys with busy schedules, perhaps testifying experts whose schedules may impact when a trial is feasible, or a Guardian Ad Litem or parenting evaluator who must complete exhaustive investigations prior to writing and filing a lengthy report -- and then must be available to testify. Continuances are rarely sought for any reason other than unavailability of one or more crucial participants. Courts are also mindful of the need for closure and don't frequently grant continuances without justification. This review is anonymous and I can't think of a case of mine that has been subject to multiple continuances, unless for the above-stated reasons. I am mindful of the need bring a case to a close. My duty to my client, as I see it, is to provide an honest assessment of the readiness of the case for trial and the impact of the unavailability of one or more crucial players. Once I've given my client the tools to make an informed decision about the necessity of a continuance, I will always follow their instructions and object to a continuance. Whether it is ultimately granted is, of course, up to a judge.
