An excellent, straight-forward attorney

When I realized I needed a divorce attorney, I read many reviews and decided on Sara because her clients’ descriptions and her own words on her website suggested a person who would use her knowledge and experience to give me a realistic and honest understanding of the situation. Also, she had taken ...cases that were not easy wins and had a well-rounded liberal arts education likely providing the capacity to see multiple angles and consider non-standard circumstances. In addition, she seemed highly intelligent, articulate and valued high standards for her own character and her work. All of this proved to be true. The office of Sara and her husband John, a mediator, is totally run by the two of them; they have no secretary to answer their own phones and copy papers. This helps cut down on expenses and gives you a sense of connection with them as people and a legal team. When I first met Sara, I did not have the money for a retainer or anything more than the amount required for a first meeting. However, by the end of listening to her initial advice, I had a good idea about what I could fight for and what would probably be a losing battle. Sara does not play games nor does she coddle you and this is exactly what I wanted: someone to tell me the absolute, unvarnished truth. We kept in touch during the first months of my separation and when I was able to get the retainer, she was careful in her use of these funds. At the end of each month, she sends a statement explaining how the money was used. It was very straight-forward. Since divorce is an emotional roller-coaster, it is sometimes tempting to seek encouragement and solace from your attorney, but you have to remember that every conversation you have takes her time and your money. With that said, she was extremely fair and amicable through it all even when I was rattled. There is no doubt that Sara is your advocate during the process. She will fight hard for you, but she works from a foundation of decency that is based on the understanding that this is not a battle to squelch and ruin the other person. She embodies the belief that the goal is to seek a final judgment that is fair, honest and honorable. I wouldn’t have had it any other way and would recommend her to anyone seeking a divorce.

Thank you, Sara!

Sara took us on after being turned down 3 other places. She is patient, understanding, and kind when telling you the reality of your situation. She was very knowledgeable in foreseeing how the court of Lane county would receive our case and tailored our request to slide through the court system witho...ut any issues. We came in to update our parenting plan and she was able to point out other discrepancies in our original judgement that would be in our favor to change as well. I'm sure it's possible we are an exception, but from the day we signed the papers with Sara to the day we parted ways was 45 days in total. Never could have asked for better, faster, more personal service.

Couldn't ask for a better attorney

Upon calling her office, she was the first attorney to actually answer. No explaining to a secretary and waiting for a call back. I consulted with her and hired her on the spot. My ex wife took off with my kids to California and had been gone for 2 months. Sara handled everything in a timely manner a...nd with a high degree of professionalism. She kept in close contact with me through the entire process and because of her I don't have to worry about my ex doing this again. She even revised the existing parenting plan to be more specific and detailed which has resulted in more time with my children. It was money well spent and I couldn't have asked for a better attorney. She has been practicing in her field for a long time and it shows through her professionalism, she knew exactly what to do and got it done. I highly recommend her, if you are looking for an attorney in this field call her first! You won't be disappointed!

Would definitely recommend

Sara represented me in the dissolution of my domestic partnership, yep she was my lawyer in my gay divorce. She was knowledgeable about the law and its application to my and my children's specific situation. Her knowledge and reassuring demeanor helped me through a very difficult period in my lif...e. She communicated with me constantly through email and telephone in a timely manner, and I always felt appraised of current developments. Sara did her best to move proceedings along, even with the other party and her attorney being less than prompt. Sarah was exactly what I and my family needed to usher me through a complicated legal process, while reminding me that asking for (and getting ) things that are equitable and fair is well within my rights. I'm relieved to be done with this process, and grateful that I had Sara with me through it. I would absolutely recommend her and her services to anyone looking for a family law attorney who is friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and who definitely cares about and will work for what is best for you and your family.

Incompetent

First, Sara did not file a response in my divorce case even though I reminded her of the 30 day mark several times. After the 30 day mark I called and left a message stating the 30 day mark had passed. She then filed a response that day, and I had to call the courthouse myself to get them to put the ...response with the default judgment together for the judge. She then did not want to file any documents to counter my husband's response for temporary support. She raised her voice and became very defensive when I questioned her why she was not providing documents. Her reasoning for not providing documentation was that it would take longer to file. She then provided minimal documentation and filed it without my permission. She is lethargic with her work at best if not completely incompetent.

Unfortunately, while struggling to navigate the most painful and frightening circumstances of their lives, some clients are compelled to engage in costly and time consuming hyper-vigilance and micro-management, a behavior that can bring about misinterpretations and misunderstanding of legal procedure and strategy overall. In a court proceeding, we temporarily relinquish some measure of control to an outside authority. This can bring our greatest fears to surface, causing us to become distrustful of those looking out for our best interests; indeed, causing us to become unnecessarily aggressive, critical and self-undermining. In this case, my work had already resulted in a favorable judgment prior to the client's loss of confidence. She was unaware of having prevailed and felt compelled to try to manage the case through court clerks who have neither the authority nor the facts necessary to administer legal advice. To prevent this type of occurrence, it is important to find an attorney with whom clients can comfortably communicate. Rapport is paramount in staving off fear-driven and reactionary decisions that have the potential to irrevocably damage ones case. I wish this client the best and am confident in the knowledge that this matter was won before confidence had been lost.
