The office of Sara and her husband John, a mediator, is totally run by the two of them; they have no secretary to answer their own phones and copy papers. This helps cut down on expenses and gives you a sense of connection with them as people and a legal team. When I first met Sara, I did not have the money for a retainer or anything more than the amount required for a first meeting. However, by the end of listening to her initial advice, I had a good idea about what I could fight for and what would probably be a losing battle. Sara does not play games nor does she coddle you and this is exactly what I wanted: someone to tell me the absolute, unvarnished truth. We kept in touch during the first months of my separation and when I was able to get the retainer, she was careful in her use of these funds.
