Shangar’s desire to fight for individuals was forged in childhood when her Kurdish family fled government repression and persecution in Iraq and immigrated to America when she was 11. She later returned to Iraq to work for the International Rescue Committee, helping refugees find homes and reconnect with their families.
During college, Shangar helped U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley fight for individuals in Oregon and nationally. Her background, experience, and work ethic led her to the honor of delivering the commencement address for her graduating class at Portland State University.
She brings this same commitment and dedication to the practice of law.
In addition to Kurdistan and Oregon, Shangar has lived in France, Hungary, and Cyprus. Shangar’s time away from the practice of law is dominated by her family and cooking tasty Middle Eastern cuisine.
