Since graduating from Harvard Law School, Jim W. Vogele has been an active member of the Montana State Bar (1988), the California State Bar (1991), the Oregon State Bar (2011), and the Washington State Bar (2021). During law school, he was a summer law clerk for the Alaska Supreme Court. He received his B.A. with Honors in English Literature from Montana State University.
Jim has published articles, reviews, and chapters on employment law and other topics. He has lectured on employment law at numerous Continuing Legal Education seminars, and has given presentations on legal history and practice to law students and college students. He has served as a volunteer attorney for the Montana Legal Services Association and for the Legal Aid Society of California Worker's Rights Clinic in San Francisco.
Jim grew up on a ranch in eastern Montana; he has substantial blue-collar work experience, including jobs as a house painter, a ranch hand, a landscaper, a roughneck in the Williston Basin oil fields, and as a seismographer in the mountains of Wyoming. He has also worked as a bartender, an LSAT preparation instructor, and as a tutor to Crow Indian students at Montana State University.
Jim enjoys biking, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, reading and writing.
Jim W. Vogele has served as second chair trial counsel in state and federal court trials in class actions leading to the recovery of over $200 million in overtime wages and other damages for several thousand employees. He is equally proud of having successfully litigated many smaller but equally important discrimination, harassment, and civil rights cases.
