Thank you

I am really grateful to Mr Shamloo to help me get my US citizenship. I want to explain my situation in detail so that someone who reads this and has similar issues can get the help needed from Mr. Shamloo and his decades of experience with Immigration and criminal laws. So please bear with the upcomi...ng essay :) My case involves criminal cases. I got arrested 3 times since I came to US in 3 different states over a period of 8 years. the first one was a DWAI arrest but the case was dismissed by the court and pleaded to reckless driving (speeding). the second one was for possession of psilocybin but the case was again dismissed by the court with not guilty. Both these times I was fortunate to have very good lawyers in the 2 different states and I am grateful them as well. the 3rd arrest was in Oregon in 2019 with a DUI and possession of Cocaine. I hired a criminal lawyer who didnt have experience in immigration law. I later realized after reading online that I will need to hire immigration lawyer as cocaine conviction would definitely make me deportable (actually I found out that controlled substance offense is deportable even without a conviction, so technically my previous arrest for Psilocybin also made me deportable if USCIS wanted to deport me). Thats when I found Mr Shamloo. He immediately started working with my criminal lawyer. He asked me to start outpatient rehab right away even before court dates. I sincerely did all the work and decided (and have stuck with that decision) to stop using substances. The criminal lawyer and Mr Shamloo made a plan to get case dismissed if possible and worse case scenario at least get the possession of cocaine dismissed. They were thankfully able to convince the DA/court of dismissing the 'possession of cocaine' charge but due to previous offenses had to plead guilty to the DUI (again got lucky since the police during breathalyser for alcohol only and no urine test). After the DUI conviction I got 2 yr bench probation which I completed within a year with regular urine analysis (UA) tests and driver's license suspension for 1 yr but got hardship permit to drive with interlock device in car. Mr. Shamloo asked me to reach out to him after probation. However he had already started planning to build my citizenship case and as soon as my probation was done he asked me to sign up for random UA at my rehab. He also asked to setup a voluntary interlock device in my car. This was to prove that I had decided to stop using substances and to prove that low to no chance of recidivism. After I did that for 2 years he asked to get a professional evaluation done by a psychologist at NW Forensic Institute which was a little expensive (~$5K) but Mr Shamloo really wanted to make the case that and prove that there was no chance of recidivism and in the worst case if I was to go to court for deportation then the psychologist could testify. The evaluation was a 4 hour interview and questionaire with 300 questions. Since I had done the work and cleaned my act, the report came out good and then Mr Shamloo was confident that we can move ahead with application. However he wanted to wait till at least 3 yrs passed from the time of conviction so that we can show that no substance usage and issues with law in the last 3 yrs to show good moral conduct. He finally applied on my behalf for N400 naturalization along with my court records, letters of support from family and friends. I got a call for interview within 3months and got approval for citizenship during interview with a very nice USCIS officer. I just had to explain the circumstances of the arrests. We didnt have to show all the evaluation report, UA tests or interlock records but we had it ready just in case things went south and the USCIS officer decided to reject application or worse. all the best if you are in trouble with immigration and I would definitely recommend to go with Mr. Shamloo.

"I endorse this lawyer. David N. Shomloo is an outstanding lawyer who brings advanced expertise in both immigration and criminal law to the table. He is a zealous advocate for his clients, who does not shrink back from difficult cases or powerful, well-funded opponents - such as big government agencies. He has extensive state and federal court litigation experience at both the trial and appellate court level. David is a smart, knowledgeable, ethical and effective advocate for his clients. Besides that, he is warm, personable, and even charming. Having come to the US as an immigrant himself many years ago, he has a personal appreciation of the opportunities and challenges that this country offers. If I had a difficult legal problem and needed a skillful, competent, and aggressive lawyer, I would not heistate to hire David."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
