Going through divorce, albeit even the most amicable is emotionally taxing. When I filed for divorce to exit a toxic marriage and my ex-husband contested, I knew it was time for legal counsel. I felt a lot less anxiety about the whole divorce process having Chris in my corner concerning the legal part of things. He was very fair in his retainer fee and was quick, direct and clear in his communication (something I really appreciate!). He was willing to communicate with my ex-husband, respectfully and directly. I had an unusual situation of an annulment of a marriage. There wasn't a lot of information available on annulment but Chris helped me through every stage of the process, answering all my questions, for a reasonable fee. Initially went to the firm to see another attorney; was told that she would not have the time to help me as well as he would and so she handed my case over to Mr. Burnett. From the beginning he acted as though my case was unimportant and not worth his time. As the court date approached it seemed as t...hough nothing was getting accomplished, even with receiving the statements for how many hours he "worked" on my case. When we appeared in court the judge whom had the case information for far less time had to continue to correct his errors in case information. I did not appreciate having to sit next to him as he is trying to get me divorced when I have never been married or is mixing up the names of my ex and I and hearing him being corrected by someone who is supposedly so much less informed on my case. If he spent any time preparing for my case I would be shocked. 2 years later I'm still trying to get my screwed up custody agreement fixed.

Chris gave me the general impression that my case was too "low stakes" for him to spend very much time on it. He represented me during a legal proceeding that resulted in a very low child support payment to me by my ex-spouse. He didn't always respond to my emails and calls. I often didn't know wh...at was going on with my case. Once he prepared a document at the request of my ex's attorney without clearing it with me first. Then he charged me for the mistake even after I pointed it out to him. I have never paid anyone so much money and been treated so much as if I didn't matter. I have hired a new attorney and found that I'm much happier.
