Ryan is a veteran of the United States Navy in which he served honorably for over 10 years scaling the ranks from Seaman Recruit to Lieutenant before receiving a medical separation in 2010. In his time in the service, Ryan deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2002-2003, and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Born in San Diego, California, Ryan graduated from High School in Newport News, Virginia in 2000 and immediately joined the Navy at the age of 17. In 2002, while stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ryan earned an Associates of Applied Sciences Degree from Tidewater Community College where he studied Information Systems Technology. Following his deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Ryan was selected among his peers as having innate and outstanding leadership ability and was sent to The Pennsylvania State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology and his Commission as a Naval Officer. After he was separated from the armed forces, Ryan moved to Athens, Georgia where he purchased a home and used his G.I. Bill to attend the University of Georgia School of Law from which he graduated in 2015.
Despite his separation from the Navy, Ryan still has a passion for the ocean and is an avid swimming, sailing, and water-sports enthusiast. In 2013 he served as Navigator on a 42-foot sailing vessel in the Trans-Pacific regatta making a 16-day voyage from Los Angeles, California to Oahu, Hawaii. Ryan would later return to Hawaii permanently in 2019 where he continues to practice law part time.
Following his graduation from Law School, Ryan accepted a position at a mid-sized law firm in Atlanta specializing in injury defense. However, he quickly found that his passions were not well served defending large companies and insurance providers and decided to move back to Athens in the summer of 2016 where he worked with a number of solo practioners before starting his own solo practice in 2018. Ryan continues to practice law in both Georgia and Hawaii today.

I’ve been an attorney for 20 years and know an attorney can be his or her own worst client. So when I had a minor business dispute with a vendor, I hired Ryan to handle it. it was settled in a few days on more favorable terms than I’d authorized. Great job, for a fee that was more than reasonable. I’...

My family came to Ryan with a fairly uncommon problem. We needed his help transferring the guardianship of an adult from one state to another and also from one co-guardian to a new co-guardian. Sounds simple right? Ryan does not specialize in this type of law (I don't think many do), but he didn't ba...

Called Ryan to get some advice for an estate with no signed will. We spoke for about 45 minutes and he took a real interest in my situation. He laid out expected fees and other costs and asked great questions and relayed a similar circumstance he dealt with and it made my decision easy.

I was referred to Ryan by a friend of the family who said that he was extremely hard-working, diligent, and cared about his clients. In the mere months it took for Ryan to handle my son’s extremely complicated criminal matters, he performed directly in-line with what I expected given his reputation....

I hired Ryan Heron to have some POA documents drawn up for me in regards to my father. He was conveniently located right here in Athens, Ga! I can be a very inquisitive person with lots of questions, but he was able to answer every question and ease my mind. Not only was he kind, but also very unders...
"Ryan and I were opposing counsel on a complicated estate matter which involved several different estates which had not been handled properly. As in most probate litigation, there was also considerable animosity and distrust between the family members. I found Ryan to be pleasant, professional, and reasonable while he still advocated strongly for his client. I believe Ryan had a good understanding of the relevant law and was able to use that knowledge to make strong arguments on behalf of his client without resorting to mudslinging. I certainly think Ryan's demeanor in settlement negotiations would be a benefit to any client who is truly looking to reach an agreement, but don't doubt that he would also advocate strongly and effectively in the courtroom."
