Ms. McMillen’s law office emphasizes counseling and zealous representation of clients in difficult situations.

In appellate and post-judgment litigation, she has represented clients in criminal and civil appeals in both state of federal courts, including the Hawai'i state appellate courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, for more than 35 years.

In family law matter, she focuses on out-of-court settlement if there is a reasonable chance to achieve the right result through negotiations. If out-of-court settlement is impossible, however, due to a difficult spouse, ex-spouse or other parent, then will represent my client in litigation including the trial and appeal.

In alternative dispute resolution, she is a mediator specializing in the resolution of disputes throughout the State of Hawai’i.  Legal counsel, their clients and other mediators consistently hold her in high regard for her knowledge of the law and subject matter of a case, as well as her ability to listen, keep everyone focused, and assist in building lasting agreements.  As a mediator she is known for her skill in helping floundering parties articulate the problem and find solutions, her stamina during negotiations, her ability to provide reality-checks in difficult situations and her pursuit of settlement.
