Mediate not judicature

Divorce is never an easy process to face. Emotions are involved and, at times, there's the urge to retaliate and take the most of what you can get. The court adversary system promotes this, more so during divorce as “retainers” are involved. For those seeking an alternative way to separate, perhaps,... amicably, mediation may be the way. Thus, I am glad to have found Michael. He is a full time mediator and does not take sides. He listens, is compassionate, and respects your privacy. Most importantly he works hard to find a solution that is fair to both parties. While the aftermath of a divorce leaves a hole in your chest, a knot in your gut, working with Michael did not leave me with the bad after taste of being had.

If I had to do this again... I'd still choose him... (the mediator, not the ex!)

If there's anything to be said about divorce... it sucks. In so many ways! But choosing Michael Jonsson as my mediator was the absolute best choice I could have made. In comparing other folks' experiences through the divorce process, I mentioned to my ex time and time again how lucky we were to ...have fallen into such capable hands. We agreed on that. And through divorce proceedings!!!! How often do divorcing folks agree on things? Right? Beyond the technical knowledge Michael possesses and his expertise in children as a child advocate, he taught me a lot about how to communicate to the man I had been with for almost 17 years. Both in and out of the mediation office. I believe we both benefited and came out much stronger thanks to the work we did in those hours of work at the Sacramento Divorce Solutions office. The coaching I was able to receive individually was priceless. Keep in mind, some mediators will not communicate AT ALL without both parties present. I cannot phantom working like that. There were times I needed to be talked off the ledge, angry emails exchanged that needed dissecting and Michael was there though it all. With understanding and compassion - and a gentle kick in the pants when I needed it. In conclusion, I don't believe I'd be as happy and strong as I am right now without this process having been handled the way it did.

"Michael Jonsson is an experienced family law attorney who has devoted dozens of hours to education and training in the specialized skill set required to be an effective mediator. He provides participants in family law matters with very positive services both from a perspective of sharing his legal knowledge and in having the skill set to foster the identification of each party's objectives and the options for both parties to achieve the greatest number of those objectives. The confluence of Mike's knowledge and skills as a mediator has allowed many individuals to reach agreements, based on their particular circumstances, as how their lives will look post-dissolution. Mike is keenly aware of both the emotional and financial costs of protracted involvement in family law actions and he makes every effort to provide a very viable alternative to his clients. I highly recommend him as a mediator."

"I have known Mike for over 15 years, and highly recommend him as a mediator. He is knowledgeable, thoughtful, empathetic and he has a great sense of humor. He regularly seeks to increase his skills as a mediator so that he can effectively resolve difficult cases other mediators will not even attempt. He regularly and generously gives back to our community in many ways. He should be seriously considered by anyone desiring an effective family law mediator."

"I have known Mike as a family law colleague and friend for over 20 years. In my opinion, he is one of the best mediators in the Sacramento area. He has more advanced mediation training and experience than any other family law neutral I know. Mike has a special knack, and extensive instruction, in working with high conflict cases that might at first not seem well suited to mediation. He has lectured and presented to the family law bar and mental health community on risk and threat assessment, and his knowledge and skill in this area is unsurpassed. The many years he spent working as children’s counsel in litigated cases also informs his practice and gives him special insight into the needs and challenges of children of divorce. I've provided consultation to clients who have worked with Mike, and they have been satisfied with the mediation experience and pleasantly surprised by the cost."
