Then, they have no choice but to offer top dollar - or we're going to put the case before a jury, where the insurance company risks an excess verdict. That's what scares them - a verdict in excess of the policy limits they could have paid, if only they weren't concerned only about their bottom line, at the expense of injured people. 

And that's exactly what happened at my last trial. The insurance carrier offered $70,000, thinking we would take the first dollar. Instead we took the case to trial, obtaining a verdict in excess of $577,.
