When my same-sex partner and I first started exploring the idea of returning home and gaining an IR1 Visa, I bought and read the (very informative) NOLO book on the topic and got online to try to work out how to DIY. Feeling confused with the unclear, sometimes apparently conflicting information I vi...sited the Hong Kong consulate to ask for advice...they were kind, but unhelpful. Shortly after, we decided we had better do this with professional help. After a few weeks researching Peter Kyung became our choice of advocate. Yesterday, Henry, had a 2 hour wait (by himself as I was not allowed in the consulate) for his interview. While he was there he overheard countless people trying to manage on their own, running into confusing rules and difficult challenges. The Consular staff were as helpful as they could be, but made it clear that they do not provide information or hand-holding. Some were turned away, we were not. Indeed the clerk jokingly mentioned to Henry that our case was in such good order that it was a waste of time submitting all the additional evidence! Peter was competent, comforting, and encouraging throughout. In reflection we believe our relationship with him has been one of the best decisions we made in this process.
