I came to meet Sam Berns by pure chance. After I was pulled over by CHP, on suspension of DUI in El Dorado County, I didn’t know what was going to happen to me after spending the night in jail, but I figured I needed a lawyer and I remembered the catchy tag line on a radio commercial for a So. Cal. ...law firm that specializes in DUI cases, so I looked them up on the internet. I spoke to a lawyer at the firm, and the next day I found out Mr. Berns had been assigned to my case. During my first consultation with Mr. Berns I remember asking him all sorts of questions about what was likely going to happen to me. He patiently answered the questions and often had to clarify what he had said because I can be pretty dense. He explained to me what his strategy would be, then suggested that I write out and document in as much detail as I could recall, the events of the entire day I received the DUI. He also counseled me to per-emptively seek out personal help that would demonstrate to a judge, I was not intending to continue with the poor judgement that got me pulled over that day. He said there were no guarantees, but also assured me that depending upon the lab results of my blood test and testimony from an expert, he felt like he would be able to get a favorable judgement. I followed all his advice to the best of my ability. After 16 months with more court dates than I can recall, many of which were postponed due to Covid-19 and other circumstances, Mr. Berns was able to get my charges dropped in the El Dorado County court and the DMV violation set aside! I intend to never need Mr. Berns’ professional help again, however, I can say with all sincerity that I am one fortunate guy to have had him in my corner during this entire event. I am thankful for catchy radio commercials, but I will be forever grateful to Mr. Berns for giving me his all.
