I was passing through the community of Angel's Camp, California in Feb of 2022 when I came up behind what I believed to be a slow moving vehicle driven by someone who was elderly. After following for 3/4 of a mile or so, I slowly moved left into a turning lane and passed the vehicle. Turns out that ...that SUV was driven by Calaveras County Sheriff's officer who was driving in an unmarked vehicle. She turned on her lights, pulled me over, and handed me a misdemeanor charge for reckless driving. To say that I was a bit stunned would be an understatement. Fortuitously, during my first court hearing, I was assigned April Asbell as my attorney. Within a few days, I spoke with her and found her to be on-point, intelligent, and professional. She quickly understood my predicament and asked the relevant questions. As equally important as her command of the law was a feeling that I was dealing with someone who was warm-hearted.
