FORMAL COMPLAINT & WARNING TO OTHERS - Proceed with Caution

FORMAL COMPLAINT & WARNING TO OTHERS I am reporting Seabrook Law Offices and my former attorneys to the California State Bar Association. This firm lost a $4,000 payment made on my behalf, then pressured me into signing a Substitution of Attorney based on the false claim that the payment was neve...r made. I was later billed for unnecessary and unauthorized services. They also refused—despite multiple requests—for weeks to return my documents and case file. UPDATE: A client liaison contacted me and asked if refunding the $4,000 would resolve the matter. I explained that I am seeking a full refund, including my original retainer, due to the firm’s serious mishandling of my case. Their own leadership admitted that my attorney failed to exercise due diligence. I was told they would speak with Paul Seabrook. Instead, I received a $314 invoice for a court filing that was rejected, with no explanation or accountability. While some clients may have had smooth, uncontested matters, this firm is unfit for complex or high-conflict family law, especially cases involving abuse or narcissistic ex-partners. They ignored clear red flags, took my money, and left me unprotected—forcing me to find new representation and start over. I met with Paul Seabrook, shared years of abuse my children and I endured, and was promised support. That promise was empty. The firm failed me at every stage. My concerns were ignored, and I was left to appear in court with inaccurate information, which harmed my credibility and case. They also violated California Rule of Professional Conduct 1.16(e)(1), which requires attorneys to return all client materials upon termination: “...a lawyer shall, promptly upon the termination of a representation, release to the client, at the request of the client, all client materials and property.” This firm demonstrated negligence, dishonesty, and a disturbing disregard for vulnerable clients. If you're escaping abuse or navigating a difficult divorce, do not hire them. They are not trauma-informed, not diligent, and will not support you when it matters most. Proceed with caution.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
