Horrible Experience

Replied last June 04, 2012These reviews are anonymous. I hope that whoever wrote this will please contact me so I can discuss his or her experience in more detail. I want to make sure that our firm continues to give the highest quality representation to our clients. I am unsure how to respond specifically as; 1) Our typical fees for a first time misdemeanor offense are 2,500 to 5,000 dollars which is commensurate with what most other attorneys in the area charge. 2) We have a policy that in any of these cases I will always meet with a client in person after the first court date to review the police report together. I also will always meet clients in person to review any proposed settlement offers together. This review is hard for me to understand as I have never told a client that i "knew" to be not guilty to plead guilty. That would be highly unethical. Also, I never tell a client that they "have" to take a deal. That is not my job. My job is to attempt to negotiate the best possible result. I then will tell my client what the settlement offer is and my opinion of what their chances in a trial would be. My legal advice is based on what I think the likely result would be in trial. In reviewing any offer made by the DA's office I will always discuss with the client any "collateral consequences" such as immigration consequences or work consequences. I can't think of any case I have ever handled where I told a client to plead guilty to an offense knowing that he would lose his job or be deported. It would almost always be in the client's best interest to go to a jury trial in that kind of a situation. I have over 20 years of experience and was a deputy district attorney for Santa Clara County. I am confident that our firm's results on domestic violence cases match or exceed any other law firm in this area. I am concerned that someone had such a negative impression and that this is the first I am hearing about it. I look forward to receiving additional feedback from this individual.
