The Attorney I Needed Facing False Allegations in Custody Court

I retained Nancy L. Roberts in 2024 to represent me in a highly contested custody and divorce matter involving numerous false allegations. From our first meeting, she was professional, meticulous, and exceptionally well prepared. She took the time to understand every detail of my case, organized the ...evidence carefully, and presented it effectively to the Court. Throughout the case, Nancy remained calm, strategic, and focused on the facts. Rather than reacting emotionally to the accusations, she methodically gathered supporting evidence and prepared thorough filings that addressed each issue directly. Her preparation and advocacy played a significant role in successfully defending against those allegations and in helping me retain custody of my daughter. What impressed me just as much was her professionalism. Nancy was always prepared, planned well in advance for hearings and filing deadlines, and never made me feel my case was competing for her attention. Even when she had other matters on her calendar, my filings were completed on time because she planned ahead. When emergency issues arose, she responded quickly. She prepared and filed emergency (ex parte) requests promptly, including after normal business hours when necessary. During an extremely stressful period in my life, knowing that my attorney was available and prepared gave me tremendous confidence. I also found Nancy to be very fair and ethical in her billing practices. Her invoices reflected the actual work performed, and I never felt I was being billed unnecessarily. She was conscientious with her time, and I always felt that my resources were being used efficiently. Most importantly, I always believed Nancy's focus was on achieving the best possible outcome for my daughter and me. Thanks to her dedication, preparation, and advocacy, my daughter continues to thrive. I will always be grateful for the role Nancy played during one of the most difficult periods of my life. I recommend Nancy without hesitation to anyone seeking an experienced, ethical, and highly prepared family law attorney.

She Believed in Me When No One Else Did

Several years ago, I found myself in one of the most difficult situations of my life. Based on false accusations, my now ex-husband effectively left me without a home. Desperate for help, I consulted several well-known and highly experienced attorneys. Every one of them told me the same thing: my cas...e was unwinnable. None of them were willing to take it. At best, they offered a consultation and warned me that my chances of success were very slim. I had only three weeks to prepare, file, and properly serve my response to the court. For someone without a legal background, the task seemed almost impossible. Nancy came into my life just as I was beginning to lose hope. She was the only attorney who believed in my case and was willing to fight for me. Looking back, I can honestly say that choosing her was one of the best decisions I have ever made. In just two weeks, we prepared all of the necessary legal documents, filed them with the court on time, and properly served the opposing party. My divorce case was extremely complex. Even the judges were shocked by what they saw and heard throughout the proceedings. The divorce process took a long time, but that was certainly not because of Nancy. Throughout the entire case, she proved herself to be an exceptional attorney and a highly skilled negotiator. She stood by my side every step of the way, offering not only legal expertise but also encouragement and unwavering support when I needed it most. Nancy paid close attention to every detail. Before preparing any document, she made sure she fully understood every aspect of the situation. She carefully explained all possible outcomes, discussed every available option, and drafted documents that anticipated potential issues and closed as many legal loopholes as possible. I am truly grateful that life brought Nancy into my path. Thanks to her professionalism, dedication, and genuine compassion, I was able to get through one of the hardest chapters of my life. I wholeheartedly recommend Nancy to anyone looking for not only an outstanding attorney, but also someone who truly cares about her clients and will fight tirelessly to protect their interests.

Money & time lost, please avoid!

I hired Nancy Roberts a week before my divorce hearing because I needed a lawyer fast. I really wanted it to work, but it was a disaster. She took the case but did not dedicate 15 minutes to discuss strategy with me — even though I asked. I went to the hearing completely unprepared and ended up em...barrassing myself. She kept making mistakes in court filings — even got the hearing time wrong. I had to double-check and fix her errors all the time. Her computer didn't work well (strange, it's 2026). She excused her mistakes and unprofessionalism by saying she took my case last minute. Sorry, that was her choice and her responsibility. Despite the fact I was overseas, I was able to transfer the retainer to her on time and exactly as she requested — she does not take cards or money transfers, only physical checks. In court, she spoke so quietly the judge kept telling her to speak up and use the mic. She could not tell the judge what documents had been filed in my case — even though I had provided her with all copies and details. I had to speak up myself, trying to fix the catastrophe. After the hearing, I wrote her very politely about my expectations and doubts, and suggested we work on strategy and prep better for the next hearing. She got upset and sent me a substitution of attorney form to sign. Also she almost sent the rest of my retainer deposit to my ex‑spouse's mailbox — absolutely ridiculous and insulting when you lawyer doesn’t have a common sense! I lost time, money, and a hearing. I'm back to being unrepresented and regret I chose Nancy in the first place, relying on relatively higher reviews.

I strive to provide competent and diligent representation to every client. The statements in this review are inaccurate and present a highly misleading account of the representation. Because I am bound by my ethical duty of confidentiality, I cannot publicly discuss the facts of a client's case or respond to specific allegations other than to say it is my practice to use the address provided to me by a client. I encourage prospective clients to consider my overall professional reputation and experience rather than relying on a disputed review. If a former client wishes to discuss any concerns directly, I am always willing to do so privately.

Do not Reccomend

I hired Nancy to represent me in divorce and child custody case. Nancy spent an enormous amount of time discussing with opposing counsel and later directly with my x unsignificant events that took place 10 years back. Nancy lost documets I gave her. My fault I didn't make copies. She did not keep any... records of all the background information I gave her on the case, and kept asking me to retell her details of things she should have had records of and I has already told her multipletimes verbally. And via emais. When I'd point it out to her, she'd state that it will take her a very long time to go through her records to find relevant information and it's best I retell her, charging me hefty amounts of money for her time. She did that allot, asking same questions she had already asked. It really felt like she was working against me, not for me. She then would mix up information she sent to another party, confusing and complicating things further. She was absolutely no help in child custody. When my x offered Nancy to meet and discuss settlement, Nancy failed to notify me. I learned that directly from my x. She insisted that trial is imminent and she has to "prepare for every possible scenario." When I wanted a settlement and not to deal with the trial. Once I told her that I am not willing to pay her for "what if" and prefer she addresses issues one step at the time, she suggested I find another attorney. Once she figured out I will not be fooled, and she will not be able to keep charging me, she pretty much refused to do her job, dropping me like a hot potato. I wasted allot of hard earned and borrowed money and time, and got nowhere. She mostly stayed mum in the courtroom as well. So if you are dealing with a difficult spouse and a complicated child custody, Nancy is not the right lawyer for you.

I'm sorry you think you had a bad experience with my firm. As an attorney I am bound by a code of conduct which prevents me from responding in a point-by-point fashion in this forum, but I can say that I do not believe your post presents a fair or accurate picture of events that transpired over one year ago when I represented you on a limited basis for a very short period of time. I strive for the utmost client satisfaction and particularly my clients' understanding of the legal process and options available to them in every case. Settlement is always my goal where possible. It sounds as if despite my best efforts to convey a clear understanding of the law and procedures being undertaken in your case, that there was a misunderstanding. As I cannot respond directly in an online forum, please contact me directly to discuss your specific concerns.

Rebuttal to recent review regarding Nancy Roberts, Esq.

Hi, My name is Lynda. I wanted to respond to a recent review regarding attorney Nancy Roberts, Esq. In "that review" it said: that Ms. Roberts was "hard to reach"...that she "weakly negotiated or argued" for her clients...that she "failed to file important documents"... and a number of other such ...accusations. This "review" appalled and sickened me, because it's so far from the truth, it's ridiculous. This is not at all who Ms. Roberts is, or of what one can expect from Ms. Roberts if they should hire her. I am a paralegal and worked many years as a paralegal for family law attorneys in Santa Clara County. I also personally know many other paralegals who work for family law attorneys in Santa Clara county, so I have also had much feedback regarding not only the attorneys they worked for, but also attorneys they have dealt with. After many years of personally dealing with attorneys (and the feedback from other paralegals regarding their experiences with attorneys they worked for and dealt with) I personally know which attorneys are dependable and which are not; which attorneys are ethical and which are not; which attorneys are truly in the business to help their clients and which attorneys are simply out to make a buck. That is why of all the family law attorneys in Santa Clara County, I chose Ms. Roberts to handle my own divorce case. I knew I could trust her. I knew that no other attorney would give such personal attention to my case (not just because she had a duty to do so, but because she truly cares about her clients). I knew she would be fair with me in regards to her attorney fees; that she would look out for my interests (not just because I hired her to do so, but because that she truly cares about her clients); that she would stand strong for me; that she was a good negotiator; and that she could argue my issues better than any other attorney could or would. I knew that she would always keep me informed regarding all issues in my divorce; that she would never fail to prepare and file any and all documents in my case in a timely manner; and that she would always provide me with copies of each and every document in my case (whether it was a pleading filed with the court or a letter sent on my behalf to the opposing counsel/party). I knew that she would always answer or return my telephone calls, e-mails, and/or texts as soon as possible. Ms. Robert upholds the highest standards with regards to her principals and ethics and morals -- and no one could ever influence her to stray from what she knows is the right thing to do; whether the persuasion comes from the opposing counsel/party, or whether it comes from her own client. Ms. Roberts has gained a reputation among the attorneys, paralegals, and "yes" even the judges in Santa Clara County, as one of the best family law attorneys currently in practice. Anyone who is fortunate enough to retain Ms. Roberts as their attorney can remain assured that they have hired one of the best attorneys available in Santa Clara County.
