Kelsey Stout Intellectual Property is a legal practice focused solely on technology clients. This typically starts with filing patent applications, but also covers licensing & transfer, enforcement & litigation, business development, research, planning, vision and traditional counsel.

For established enterprises, this means identification of existing intellectual property assets. This also means a strategy for developing new ones, with understanding of patent laws and in light of the business realities of evolving technologies. Sometimes it means rescuing old patent filings. It means developing personal relationships with client principals, researchers, engineers, designers and sales in order to understand the client’s industry, technology and competition.

For startups, it means personal counsel through the first patent filing and planning for the second. It can mean business formation, valuation of the patent filings for investors, advice on funding & incubation, licensing & acquirement, timing on publication and guidance toward a minimum viable product that is patentable.

It can mean interface patents, hardware, circuitry, software, chemistry, materials, fabrication and a few new areas where we are still writing the law. It means an experienced operator giving the material as much time as it requires. It never means impersonal efforts from a junior attorney working on the clock.
