About Arne

Learn Arne’s areas of practice.

Practice areas
  1. Personal injury
An injury inflicted upon you by the stupid mistake of another is not a burden to be borne without seeking fair and reasonable compensation for the (1) property damage, (2) cost of medical treatment, (3) reimbursement for lost wages resulting from disability, and (4) both physical and emotional pain, loss of quality of life, anxiety, frustration and more. Please call us if you have been injured in a car "accident," bicycle crash, trip & fall, products liability, or medical malpractice.

    33 years, 1,200 cases

  2. Litigation
In my experience roughly about 10% of personal injury claims asserted against liability insurance carriers, have to go "into litigation" to be resolved. Any competent plaintiff (injured party) personal injury attorney must be an experienced litigator.

    33 years, 300 cases

  3. Motorcycle accident
Not much protects a motorcyclist from the outside of a negligently driven car or truck. However, an experienced lawyer's working familiarity with the specific laws, safe riding practices and accident reconstruction principles that pertain to motorcycles, can be the difference that brings about a successful result.

    33 years, 50 cases

  4. Brain injury
These cases are among my most favorite to prosecute. These clients are very vulnerable and need experienced, patient, communicative, and empathetic legal help. I strive to provide this type of representation at each step of the claims-litigation process.

    30 years, 50 cases

  5. Slip and fall accident
The most difficult and aggravating of injury claims, trip & fall cases are war. The liability insurers, their claims personnel, and defense attorneys can be absolutely evil incarnate in their zeal to oppose these claims. I will fight these wars and win.

    33 years, 200 cases

  6. Nursing home abuse and neglect
My mother suffered and died from Alzheimer's Disease. When the family of an Alzheimer's patient and nursing home resident retained me to sue the nursing home that abused and increased this husband/father's suffering five-fold, I dove into this subject matter, attending specialized ATLA seminars and litigating this and other cases to successful results.

    20 years, 3 cases

On graduating from UC Berkeley in 1978, I began a PhD program that same year in History at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.  After a few months of study and in the midst of a very cold Winter, I returned to California where I began working in law firms.

My first law related job was at the downtown Los Angeles firm of Overton, Lyman & Prince.  In the type of coincidence that only real life can bring, because I had worked the previous two Summers in a Wyoming uranium mine, this firm hired me to write "fact books" in the federal multi-district class action uranium litigation that was then pending in Chicago.  My work entailed flying to various big cities around the U.S. where I was assigned to literally read through and summarize file cabinets full of documents pertaining to uranium sales contracts at the offices of public utilities that had contracted with Westinghouse to build nuclear power plants.

After a couple of years and as the uranium lawsuit began to resolve, I began working on the insurance defense side of "DES" cases, all of which involved the same extraordinarily sad fact pattern, where the female offspring of mothers who had taken this synthetic estrogen medication that had been prescribed to them in the 1950's and 1960's by their physicians to treat the side effects of pregnancy, these girls developed typically terminal cancer of the cervix.  The DES cases were my first exposure to personal injury litigation, and I found that I loved working in this nexus between medicine and law.   I also discovered that I wanted to work for the injured persons and not to advance the interests of insurance companies and large corporations.

After law school, I opened my own personal injury practice in 1991,  I've now handled nearly 1,500 personal injury cases from inception through insurance claims, litigation (when necessary) and trial.  I continue to do this work, because I beleive in the rights of individuals who have been injured by the fault of others, whether in the refined context of a complex products liability setting, from premises liability, or traffic collisions.  Regardless how a person has been injured, we are all entitled to fair compensation for injuries caused by another person's or entity's negligence.  Unfortunately, the process of obtaining compensation, typically from insurance companies, is fraught with bias, prejudice and greed.  And like our current political polarizations, the insurance defense professionals on one side and the plaintiff's bar on the other, each see the other all too often as a bitter adversary.   But such is the current state of our society as we wrestle with legal concepts devolved from medieval England.   My job is to advocate for each of my clients, applying all the hard won benefits of my experience, to obtain for her or him a fair measure of compensation.

Personal Attorney Lawyer
Arne was my personal injury attorney in a case that involved getting rear-ended by a semi-truck. He was able to get me a fair settlement and was professional, caring , and responsive and made the whole process easy and straight-forward. I would recommend him to others and glad he was recommended to me by another friend.

Compassionate and Knowledgeable Attorney
We met Arne around 20 years ago after we were searching for an attorney after a car accident that left our car totaled and both me and my husband in pain. He rushed right over to our home since we were pretty banged up. We immediately felt at ease with Arne and we knew everything would be OK. He referred us to a chiropractor for the whiplash and other injuries. Me and my husband were a little skeptical because our culture does not really believe in chiropractic care. We went and were amazed at the difference the chiropractor made for both of us. Every step of the way Arne kept us informed and we always knew what to expect. Even though the process seemed lengthy and confusing he explained it all to us. Several years later we were in another car accident and Arne represented us again. I know that many people bad mouth attorneys but because of my families experience with Arne we know that many attorneys are there to help and not always out for the almighty buck. What we liked best about Arne was his sense of fairness. We were not out to fleece anyone but only to get compensated for our damages. At one point we were in a third smaller car accident and I called Arne again. Since we had been through the process already twice Arne encouraged me to "do it myself" so that we could keep the whole settlement. He helped me and coaching me throughout the process and I was able to do it all by myself. I am not sure that there are many other attorneys out there that would help a client like that without payment and this is why we hold Arne in very high regard. The other reason we count our blessings to having met Arne is because he introduced us to an alternative way to heal our bodies that does not include drugs that can mask a problem and does not necessarily resolve it. To this day, me and my family go to a chiropractor whenever we get a soft tissue or muscle injury that regular doctors would only "throw" pills at and I believe we are much healthier because of this. We still keep in touch with Arne and call him whenever we have "problems" that come up---like pieces of plate in our food that broke a tooth, and he is always more than happy to give us advice. Our family highly recommends Arne Nelson!

Happy Beyond Expectation
Arne helped me on 2 of my cases over the past 10 years. I found Arne to be very compassionate and always there to take all of my calls and questions. He fought for me in mediation and helped to negotiate a reduction of my some of my medical expenses. Arne cares for his clients and it shows. Talk with him and see for yourself.

Kind, compassionate and effective
He helped me through one of worst times of my life with kindness and compassion. He listened to my concerns and worries and thoroughly explained what was possible and what wasn't. He got me the best settlement possible in a reasonable amount of time.

Legal malpractice
Arnie Nelson has been sued by my family for legal malpractice he owes us 30K he continues to ignore judges wishes and my attorney. He left in 2018 without representation and disappeared. He took us to a chiropractor and left us with 12K in debt. Poor chiropractor couldn’t even recieve what he was owned since he died. Chiropractor called, emailed, faxed Arnie multiple times never answered. Iv called Arnie at least 15+ times. He didn’t even bother to show up to court or respond for the legal malpractice.
