Incompetent in Family Law (Divorce) Matters

I hired Mr. Johnson to represent me in my divorce matter. In my experience, Mr. Johnson was t most incompetent for divorce representation due to below reasons: ** Provided settlement terms full of incorrect information, grammatical and simple writing errors after he asked me to write up, edit, and... correct almost the whole settlement agreement in order to save money ** I found another client and their children's names in what was supposed to be my marital settlement agreement ** Offered no legal advice and simply took whatever terms my former spouse provided, which included me having to give up a substantial amount (a million) of money from my home equity, which another lawyer later told me could have been avoided if my legal advisor simply advised me to liquidate the asset in concern at the time and split the proceeds to avoid loss of such a huge sum from my home equity share ** During the initial, consultation, Mr. Johnson said he has experience dealing with high conflict and highly contentious people. I saw no such experience in practice when dealing with my former spouse ** Judge found issues when everything was FINALLY submitted for an approval and the paperwork had to be submitted at least 2-3 times before getting it approved by the court ** Found incorrect names in incorrect sections even in the final settlement once it came back from the court In conclusion, just getting my divorce papers submitted in court and actually signed by a private judge (for which I paid separately out of pocket) costed me nearly $20,000 with Mr. Johnson while I wrote up almost the whole martial settlement terms and parental plans with minimal updates by Mr. Johnson. The updates, if any at all, that were made by Mr. Johnson were full of errors. A paralegal would have costed me perhaps under $1000 to do the same types of paperwork. I do not recommend hiring Mr. Johnson as your legal representative for divorce matters.

Best single attorney I have ever retained; Often bills less than he quoted me.

Basis for opinion: I have paid about 20 attorneys in three states for advice or representation. Result: If you can find an honest, effective one, hold on to her or him for dear life. Verifiable: My name is Mark Chilson. I personally warrant the veracity of this R...eview and am happy to answer concise questions about Walter through the Avvo messaging or email. Consulted for: Estate planning mostly; some general litigation; some regulatory compliance. How referred: From friend with whom I was doing a volunteer project, I heard of this supposedly excellent attorney named Walter. About three personal references for him arose among my social circle before I retained him. Priority #1: In Overall Integrity: Honest in Billing: Often bills less than he quoted me. I'm looking for 'price/performance.' This ought to be question #1: "What written guarantee will you give me that you will stick to the quote you give me?** In Performance: Efficacious, Effective, Conscientious; Follows through on representations Example: Prepared an excellent tax-saving estate plan for me. Went above & beyond checking for potential liabilities and almost nullifying the chances of an unintended probate. Example: Constructing as-you-go and end-game strategies that save on taxes. Great value-added in helping me take advantage of little-known benefits his knowledge of the tax code afforded me. Personality: I checked out his Bar credentials because I did not believe he was a practicing attorney. He was too nice and had no noticeable egoism. This is not an ad: Feel free to contact me via Avvo and I am happy to address any specific questions within the bounds of my knowledge. I received no reduction in fees for review. Walter did not ask me to review, I chose to review unilaterally.

Best Experience Ever!

Walter is amazing. He had done my Estate Plan and it was the best experience ever. I didn't know a whole lot about the process and he was so knowledgeable, trustworthy and made it so easy. The greatest feeling was the peace of mind he gave me and my family with having it complete. I have to say the e...ducation, knowledge and peace of mind with working with Walter was the best thing I ever did to make sure everything I work so hard for is secure with my loved ones. Thank you Walter for a great experince, I would reccomend you to anyone. Best Service you can receive!

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
