Practice areas
  1. Criminal defense
    55%
As a criminal defense attorney, I represent people charged with crimes that range from petty theft to homicide and everything in between, including DUI/DWI. I am known for working and fighting hard on my client's behalf, for gathering favorable evidence (through investigations and discovery requests) and for ensuring that my client's side is told and heard. This can lead to dismissed charges, a settlement offer, diversion, or at trial a hung jury or a not guilty.

  2. DUI and DWI
    25%
A DUI case is an extremely difficult case to win. The battle is waged on two fronts: at the DMV and in court. DMV hearings are heard not by attorneys, but by clerks who are under a tremendous amount of pressure to rule against a driver. But even if you win your hearing, you may still lose your license. If a court convicts you of a DUI, the DMV gets another chance to suspend your license. But with the right attorney you can increase your odds of winning. Call me. I can help.

  3. Domestic violence
    15%
A simple push of your partner out of anger because she was yelling at you is punishable as domestic violence. That push can result in jail time, a 52 week batterer's program, community service, fines and fees. If you cause her great bodily injury--broken bone(s); bite marks; stitches, concussion, to name a few, the DA can charge you with a strike enhancement and ask for a prison sentence. These are the extreme examples. Many outcomes lie in between, even the ones with injuries.

  4. Juvenile law
    5%
Juvenile offenders are not entitled to bail. If your child is incarcerated your attorney must convince the court that your child is not a danger to the community, before the judge will release him or her. They are not entitled to a jury trial. The judge is the sole arbitrator of your child's case. Sometimes children 14 and older can be tried as adults (reserved for violent crimes, such as robberies, sex offenses, homicides). Punishment can range from community service to placement.

Ilegal Drug Case
I recently hired Roberta Brooks to handle a drug case for a local teenager I mentor. The minor was pulled over by the police for speeding. His car was searched and they found marijuana in a back pack. The case was referred to the District Attorney in which they filed felony charges. The minor made a mistake and used poor judgment and began hanging out with the wrong crowed. As parents, we've seen this occur with our children. It's important to learn from this experience and find the right person to help with the legal issue as well. What I liked about Roberta is that she is connected with the legal process and has developed long term relationships with the Courts and the District Attorney. She has experience in handling criminal cases and she is well established in her profession. Roberta is dedicated to doing necessary due diligence with researching all aspects of a case. I believe her background in law enforcement was evident. She is a straight shooter and will communicate honestly to you about potential case outcomes. Robert, working with the DA and Judge, was able to get a deferred entry judgment (DEJ). The minor ended up with 1 year probation and will have all charges dropped upon completion of his program. I believe this was accomplished because of her network and established relationships. She is hard worker who is respected in the community and well liked. I would hire Roberta again if the need arises.

Great Lawyer!
Roberta helped us recently with my husbands case. She was eager to help us. She fights for what is right & is very passionate about the law. Our family was very stressed about the situation & she assured us she would do everything in her power to get us what was fair. She did just that. We could not have been more pleased with the outcome.

Tenacious In Court/Kind to Clients
Roberta is a tenacious advocate for her clients. Her experience in law enforcement and how the criminal system works brought positive results for me. She is detailed, straight forward and honest with her clients. I appreciated her kindness with my family and me during a difficult, stressful fight; and would recommend her services to anyone accused of a criminal offense. I can't thank her enough for helping me move past this difficult experience.

Powerful Woman Makes for a Powerful Attorney
Bottom line, Roberta gets the job done. She is on top of her profession, is an excellent communicator, and will fight to the end for her client. I wasn't even sure I needed a criminal attorney, but am so glad that I put her on retainer because every time the other side tried to creep into my life and scare me, she was there to remind me that she had it all under control. And she did. If I called her, she got right back to me. Unlike other attorneys who are too busy to call you back, she returned my calls in a prompt fashion and always had an answer for me. Even with all of this, the key to her brilliance is she knows EVERYBODY, and if you don't think that's important, you're wrong. It is VERY important. She is well known and well respected in CoCo county, and in our legal system both of those count for something. If you want a no bullshit attorney who won't run up needless bills, who cuts to the chase, and who is more honest than 90% of the defense attorneys out there, pick up the phone right now and call her. I did and I slept better knowing that no matter what came my way, I had Roberta Brooks on my team. Oh, and btw....my team won.
