Michael J Van Zandt

Michael has represented our Irrigation District since the late 1980's. His representation has been superb. He has helped us navigate, quite literally, through much "troubled water" -such as the breach of the Truckee Canal at Fernley, Nevada in 2008. He possesses a rare command of the law in Calif...ornia and elsewhere. His areas of practice, exercised on our behalf, have included administrative law, environmental law, property law, and water law. He works hard and keeps his client informed. His is a great courtroom presence accompanied by unfailing respect for the judiciary and the practice of law. He is admired and respected by his peers.

Michael has been the lead water attorney for the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District for more than 20 years. I have personally worked with Mr. VanZandt for more than 17 of those years. He has been a wonderful human being to work with in the trenches of the legal world. He is thoughtful, organized, ...and listens to the voice of those who hire him. He has led us through some very tough times in the fight to protect and preserve the water rights that are so important to our way of life in western Nevada. He also led us through some serious challenges by the Department of Justice against our organization and some employees. Gratefully with Mr. VanZandt's leadership and knowledge we prevailed.
