Having an attorney is not enough, but having the right attorney is everything

I came to the realization that just having an attorney is not enough, but having the right attorney is everything. Finding myself at 54 and being faced with the most devastating journey of my life, i.e., the demise of my 35 year marriage, I did not know where to turn for professional help. The first ...attorney I chose was definitely not the right one for me as he wasted a lot of my money and accomplished very little. Out of frustration, I asked an attorney/friend of mine who did not practice family law for a recommendation. He stated, and I quote, "[i]f you have a difficult case and you want to make sure you receive everything you are entitled to, Lerandeau & Lerandeau are the only family law attorneys I would consider." The truth of this statement was quickly confirmed after retaining Lerandeau & Lerandeau. They handled my case as a team making sure that everyone understood the game plan, knew their role and when their tasks were to be completed. This approach caused my case to move forward quickly and decisively. FINALLY I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and on our first court appearance, I was more than thrilled with the results and was able to get everything I was asking for and more. I now have peace of mind and can sleep at night knowing my case will be handled by someone I completely trust. What I appreciate from a financial stand point is that I am not always billed at the full hourly fee of my attorney. Often I am charged much less per hour depending on which member of the team is working on a particular aspect of my case. Hmmm, an attorney that tries to save you money. What a interesting concept! As a 54 year high school educated, stay at home Mom, with no real marketable skills, I was very concerned and frightened about my future. I do not have those concerns any more because the Lerandeau & Lerandeau team has surpassed all of my expectations during this most difficult time in my life. Lerandeau Team members- Jennifer Byers-Lawton: Jennifer has been wonderful to work with, she is extremely knowledgeable and was assigned specific aspects of my case. I worked very closely with her to answer all of her questions so the firm could move forward effectively. Jennifer was always patient, and gave me some wonderful suggestions which helped me to make sure the legal team had everything they needed to fight for me and insure a good outcome… I really appreciated her patience with me and her willingness and ability to answer my questions in a way which enabled me to understand many of the aspects of the case which would have otherwise been way over my head. Kimi Nishihira: Kimi and I worked closely together in getting documents gathered and signed and lists complied. These items were essential to my case. If I was struggling with completing a needed task, because I am facing a process which is new to me and I don’t fully understand. Kimi would patiently help to get me back on track and make sure everything they needed for the process and to insure a positive outcome for me was completed and in their hands…

Very unprofessional

I went to see Mr. Lerandeau for a consultation and he was very unprofessional. He badmouthed other attorney's and used phrases like "we'll kill him" "we'll get him" when referring to my husband. He made me very uncomfortable and behaved in a way that I don't believe an attorney should. I would not re...commend this attorney to anyone. Be very cautious when meeting with him if you plan to.

Worst attorney I have every met with

My issue was not divorce, it was custody and visitation. The office gal lured me in, and advised me not to report the child neglect to CPS or Paul Lerandeau would not take my case. Not only did they charge $325 before I was even allowed to speak to this attorney. When I went there, he told me I sh...ould call CPS and no he did not work on this type of case. Then he told us we needed another lawyer and gave us some more bad information. I believe we knew more about guardianship than he did. What a waste of time and money.

Worthless. I had to negotiate my own case. Way over charged me and

Avoid like the plague. Unpersonal, does not consider your case as anything more than a business opportunity for himself. If you want a lawyer that is going to drag on your case and extraneously charge you for everything, then this Lerandeau and Lerandeau is your team. I hired Paul Larandeau and ...that first day was the only time I ever saw or spoke to him except 2 other times on the phone when I expressed discontent with his subordinate’s performance. First off, Rebecca Mediana must have failed negotiation class 101. Her comprehension skills are poor and you will have to explain things over and over to them, plus write everything down or else she just won’t get it. I feel like I armed them with every tool including the kitchen sink to get my case settled prior to mediation, but still the day of, she called me and said there was no avoiding mediation. So at that point I took the matters into my own hand and had the child custody case signed without their help. Of course I still got charged everything plus all the extra time that I had to re-explain over the phone to them... I settled with the opposition party and their attorney's the way I had explained to Lerandeau and the group, the way they seemed to not be able to do, or maybe it was that if they did settle the way I asked, then they would have been paid less because the case would have finished sooner... Whatever it is, they had no concern for my pocket book, the case as a business or the concerns of mine and my ability to sleep easy. So I started to vocalize my opinion to them directly. Then I got a call from Paul. He called to tell me that I was mistaken and that I was wrong. Imagine that, him telling me that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Wow, the nerve of this guy. One minute his subordinate attorney Rebecca Median is telling me that I would be going to mediation, I told her no way and that I would handle it myself, she say I highly advise you not to… I do it anyways and get the deal signed. And then Paul tells me that I am wrong. Wrong for what??? Getting the deal signed the way I wanted? Wrong for settling out of mediation?? Wrong for saving money?? Wrong for being disappointed at my lawyers for not handling the case the way I asked them to??? So then they called and asked for more money. I stupidly paid. I paid every bill they sent. Now the final part of the case starts. This is supposed to be the easier part. Then send me some forms to fill out. I have to go all over town to get the info to fill out the forms, so it takes me a few weeks. Then I get another bill. I’m puzzled now. We haven’t had a single conversation, no email correspondence, I had just paid a huge bill and had plenty of funds in the retainer, and now without any advancement on the case I get billed again. So I question the bill. And then they get snappy with me. I simply send them an email asking them to stop working on my case until I can get the forms done and until I tell them to resume. I don’t have a lot of money and don’t want to incur additional charges. A couple hours later I get letter they want me to sign ending them as my attorney. Haha! They fire me as a client. For what? Because I told Paul that Rebecca has zero negotiation skills, because I had to argue my own case, because I had to settle on my own, because I questioned their billing… Avoid them.
