OUTCOME: From 27 years and a 10-year mandatory minimum to 7 years with no cooperation!

Client was arrested with over 22 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle, and had extensive criminal history including 3 prior drug sales conviction and felon in possession of a firearm. Client was lo ... oking at a level 38 with a criminal history category IV which would result in a sentence of over 27 years and a 10 year mandatory minimum! Client was not interested in any form of cooperation with the government. After extensive plea negotiations, and counsel's knowledge that Lopez, a current 9th Circuit case that allowed a loop-hole making defendant eligible for the safety-valve, defendant was ultimately sentenced to a little over 7 years!!!

The client's maximum sentence was 19-years-to-Life in prison. With the help of his investigator, Mr. Kent was able to reach a resolution of 3 years in state prison!!!

Mr. Kent then began discussions with the DA's office, and after lengthy discussions and the DA's office initially wanting jail and sex offender registration, a resolution was struck. Client pled to 2 misdemeanors that did not require sex offender registration, and no jail time!

Client sought out Mr. Kent to represent him on his 4th DUI and Recklessly Evading a Police Officer Causing Great Bodily Injury, while client was supposed to be in DUI Court on his 3rd DUI with 1 year o ... f county jail to be served if he failed to complete DUI Court. Mr. Kent was able to get the client released at arraignment without bail on the condition he wear an alcohol-monitor and be subject to electronic monitoring. After months of negotiating, Mr. Kent was able to get the case to be properly amended, as the client's own injuries do not make for the more serious filing. After that issue was resolved, Mr. Kent was able to resolve the new case for 1 year in county jail, have the 3rd DUI 1 year in jail run concurrently, and then get client credit for the year based on the time completed on the alcohol-monitor and electronic- monitoring without ever spending a night in custody!

Client was originally charged with Felony Vandalism and Assault with Intent to Inflict Great Bodily Injury with an Enhancement for Great Bodily Injury and faced 7 years in state prison and a strike. Wh ... ile that case was being litigated, Client was arrested and charged with another Assault with Intent to Inflict Great Bodily Injury with an Enhancement for Great Bodily Injury, and Mayhem. This can involved 2 more strike allegations and a maximum prison term of 8 years in state prison. The victims in both cases were looking for Client to receive the maximum sentence.
