Client retained Mr. Kent after being arrested on the 5 freeway in the Bakersfield area for transporting 1 kilogram of cocaine. After a thorough review of all the discovery in the matter, Mr. Kent felt ... that Client's 4th Amendment Rights had been violated due to a prolonged detention and illegal search of his vehicle. After researching the issues, preparing a thorough brief, a full day of court hearings and skillful cross-examination of the officers, the judge agreed the detention for speeding was unlawfully prolonged, and the subsequent do-sniff and search of the vehicle was illegal. The cocaine was suppressed, and the charges dismissed!

Mr. Kent was hired to represent a client charged with transporting 1 kilogram of cocaine for purposes of sale. Client had no previous record, and Mr. Kent was able to get an offer of 90 days of work pr ... ogram, which meant the client would never spend a day in custody. However, Mr. Kent had to advise the client not to accept the incredible offer, as it would cause the client to being deported. After reviewing all of the evidence in the case and viewing the videos over and over again, Mr. Kent filed a motion to suppress evidence based on, an although legal traffic stop, one that was unlawfully prolonged in order for the officer to get another officer present with a K-9 to do a dog-sniff and search the vehicle. After skillful cross-examination of the officers involved, the judge agreed with Mr. Kent's arguments that the client's 4th Amendment rights were violated and the case was ultimately dismissed!

Mr. Kent was retained to represent Client after his house was raided, and who was being investigated for several felony crimes. After nearly 6 years of litigation, the matter was resolved for a single felony count, and no custody time. The best part is the felony can be reduced to a misdemeanor upon successful completion of probation!

Client had become so frustrated that he chased the victim for miles in his vehicl ... e, cornering the victim in a cup de sac. Client got out of his car and a confrontation ensued wherein Client punched the victim several times resulting in the victim suffering a broken occipital lobe and nose. Mr. Kent had immediately refer the client to counseling, and began anger management classes. After much hard work, the matter was resolved for no jail time in custody - only electric confinement allowing the client to keep his job, and the ability to earn a misdemeanor!

OUTCOME: Probation! 6 months Jail and 6 months Outpatient Rehab!

Client was charged in 3 separate felony matters alleging: 1) Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and Possession of Narcotics; 2) Assault with a Deadly Weapon; and, 3) Assault with a Deadly W ... eapon, and Possession of Narcotics for Purposes of Sales. The 5 misdemeanor cases involved possession of drugs, brandishing a weapon, assault and battery. After over a year of litigating the case, Mr. Kent was able to work out a tremendous result for the client. Although the government was adamant the defendant should go to prison for several years, ultimately, the defendant pled to 2 felony cases, and 2 misdemeanor cases, with the other 4 misdemeanor cases being dismissed. The sentence was to probation, 180 days in jail and a 180 day outpatient rehabilitation program. Client and his family were very pleased!

Client was in an altercation with the victim which resulted in the victim losing part of his finger. Client was originally charged with mayhem which mandates state prison and is a lifetime felony. This ... incident was unfortunately all caught on video. Mr. Kent was able to prepare mitigation and convince the prosecutor to dismiss the mayhem charge and allow Client to plead to an assault charge which would allow for probation and the ability to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor upon successful completion of probation!

This matter was referred to Mr. Kent by a Deputy District Attorney in an adjacent county. Unfortunately, the client initially hired a less expensive firm to represent him, and somehow the court date wa ... s missed. The client returned to The Kent Law Firm, APC and hired Mr. Kent to get involved in the matter. Mr. Kent immediately noticed an apparent due process and speedy trial violation. Mr Kent prepared and filed the appropriate motion to dismiss. After arguments on the motion, the judge agreed with Mr. Kent and the case was dismissed!
