A waste of time attorney

I reached out on a website to get a consultation with attorneys. Ms Marx called me and wanted to take my case. Up first she seemed like such a sweet person. I was very vulnerable at the time. I have a lot of health issues going on and so I hired her because I didn't know how to take on a case against... my ex and him wanting to lower my alimony. As I went along with her I started noticing some red flags. And then it all started for the bad 3 weeks prior to going to court for my case. In the 5 months that she was my attorney she has threatened to substitute out of my case at least four times to my knowledge. She just kept billing me and billing me for things yet nothing was getting done with my case. As of today two weeks prior to going to court nothing has gotten done. I'm going up against a very good attorney and will probably lose this case because of it. Because she told me numerous times that she was sorry for things that she had done that upset me and told me to trust her. And so I did. I read another review from another woman who had the same experience as myself. I should have gone with my gut but I didn't because I honestly want it to trust her. Her reasoning for substituting me is because apparently I never got her the information that she needed. Although she had asked me for things and I got them to her as soon as I could. I told her multiple times I am not good on the computer. If I was I would have done this case myself. She uses this thing called my case and all my documents are in it. There are numerous messages from her belittling me and my children. Things to the tone of as much as you do for your children Why can't they take the time for you and teach you how to upload documents the correct way. I don't think that that's a way that an attorney should talk to a client. She claims to have a assistant but she doesn't. I found out that she does everything by herself and that's why she has no time for clients. Doing the course of me hiring her she had multiple excuses of why not to help me with my case. Her phone broke, she was moving offices, moving a desk from her office to another office, had to get her dog from doggie daycare, she was sick, she was in court and would talk to me later but later never came.... I would not hire this attorney to do any court work for you unless you're willing to do it yourself... All the leg work, all the paperwork that needs to be done for the court, and then be billed for her work yet you did it yourself. Another thing is that she would get so caught up I'm certain things and would spend hours on the phone with me for instance my pension. I had told her multiple times that I had already been paid out for my pension and for my ex's pension. She spent a whole day, a phone call of 2 hours with me, and multiple uploads after I had told her I was paid out. It wasn't until I finally got a hold of my pension company to get the paperwork so that I could show her that I had been paid out from both pensions mine and my exes that she stopped. But in the meantime I paid a pretty penny for that. I really cannot say anything good about this woman as an attorney. I just want anyone who is looking to hire her to know my story and to think twice before you hire her. That's the best I can do is warn you. But if you choose to hire her I wish you all the luck in the world. My advice so if you do hire her is to make sure you have everything in order yourself.

You’ll work for yourself

I would never recommend anyone to use Emily as their attorney. I hired her many many years ago to represent me for my child custody/ support case and she did nothing to help me. I did all the leg work by providing her all my documents, going to the court to retrieve old documents from previous cases ...with the father of my children. The day of court she showed up with no paperwork, good thing I was prepared and had a copy of the whole case with me that she used. After months of not hearing from her with an update she informed me the judge threw out my case due to the other parent having outstanding violations and that I could pay the tickets myself to live forward which turned out to be a lie years later. I went to the court to try to proceed with the case on my own and the staff thought I was crazy and advised me to fire my attorney because they hard record she showed up to court on an unknown date and represented me and the judge did actually grant me full custody and child support which I did not know about for years. When I asked for the final documents they informed me the child support will not be valid since the attorney filed the order after hearing incorrectly and left off the child support but it was mentioned in the minute order. Per the court staff I would have to refill all the paperwork and serve the other parent again and go before a judge. It’s impossible for me to serve the other parent as he is in jail far away and financially I do not have the funds nor time to do this as this has been a case going since about 2013. Do not waste your time or money because you will be left doing the attorney work on your own.

Hi Christina, I'm sorry to hear you have run into issues in your case, during and years after I represented you. I wish you would have contacted me with your concerns so that I could attempt to ameliorate them. You can still call me, if you wish, to discuss the case. My email address is [email protected]. I like to think that most of my clients are satisfied with my representation and I'm sorry to hear you were not. Please contact me if I can help right the wrong you feel you experienced. Emily
