Had to fire him

My divorce case lasted 3 years and cost $30K. At the end, he recommend I settle for $40K less than half our assets, and my ex had a great job and I had none, plus 2 kids to raise (my ex wanted 0% custody). After I fired Mr. Young, I was able to get back the $40K from my ex by representing myself. ...I was also able to get a much higher amount for both child and spousal support by representing myself. Mr. Young refused to give me my documents, which is illegal/unethical, and I had to get another attorney to write him a threat letter to get them back. Also, the whole time, I had the feeling he was keeping things stirred up between me and my ex so that we wouldn't settle, and he could keep the billable hours coming in. He told me that once the support numbers are set, they can never increase, only decrease, which I found out later is not true. If I had know support numbers can be adjusted up after the fact, I would have been much more willing to settle, (but that would have reduced billable hours...) Sorry I can't recommend this man. If you do end up working with him, you will need to check the math yourself if you want to be safe.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
