Michael D. Sargent is a partner working in the firm’s Riverside office primarily working with contractors, businesses and public entities on a wide range of legal issues. Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University in 1995. He received his Juris Doctorate in 2002 from the University of La Verne - College of Law. While a student at La Verne, Mr. Sargent was active in the Moot Court program and competed in the University of Dayton - College of Law Cybercrimes Competition. His team was awarded Best Legal Brief Honors at the competition.
Mr. Sargent is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court, Central District of California. Mr. Sargent has successfully tried and arbitrated several cases and mediated hundreds more. Mike is also a licensed California real estate broker.
As a member of the California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors, (CALPASC), Mr. Sargent has volunteered his time to review contracts for its members and has provided workshops for the membership to help them implement construction litigation strategies. Mr. Sargent is a frequent speaker at the annual West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Seminar where he has provided instruction to attorneys and insurance representatives on litigation aspects of construction disputes and new building practices.
He is also a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. Mr. Sargent was honored by his peers and recognized in the Los Angeles Magazine as a 2010 Southern California Rising Star and has a “very good” rating by the independent internet based attorney rating service Avvo.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Sargent worked for several years in the construction industry. His work included the installation of electrical, fire sprinkler and suppression systems. He also learned much about the construction industry from his father, a retired contractor.
Mr. Sargent is Board Member of the one hundred thirty-two home homeowners association where he resides. He enjoys helping his neighbors maintain their neighborhood by heading various association construction improvement projects. He is also a coach for the Canyon High School Mock Trial Team. The team, made up entirely of high school students, competes each year in a mock trial competition against other high schools in Orange County, California. Mr. Sargent enjoys traveling with his wife and attending local sporting events.
