Before writing this “Bio,” I searched the internet to get some tips on how I should do it. Even though I majored journalism in college and have written for various newspapers, I was unsure on how to approach the subject of who I really am, or at least how I want you to see me.
My search revealed that I should write about myself in the third person so that you would believe that it was written by someone else. Yet, it does not seem appropriate to me that a relationship that requires trust should start with deception. I also found it rather pompous to try and describe who I am by referring to myself as “Daniel E. Hibbard.”
So I will tell you that I am an attorney who will not wear a suit to work unless I have a court appearance, deposition or other litigation related matter to attend that day. I detest cell phones, but have one. I think Skype is very cool and like to use it to stay in contact with clients, or even conduct client meetings with its video phone capabilities.
I stay in touch with many of my clients after their case is concluded. To me, it is a source of pride that these people will still contact me to chat informally. I will always have time to do this. If I am busy when they call, I will call them back.
I have been a lawyer for over 22 years now, so I can quickly give you an upfront, realistic evaluation of the merits of your claim. If you have a case, I will tell you that; if you do not, I will tell you that as well since it does neither you nor me any favors to pursue a matter that is frivolous in nature.
My family has deep roots in this community, with my dad’s parents being born in Riverside in 1898. Both of my parents were born here, as were my brother, sisters and I. I have lived here most of my life, leaving only to serve in the Air Force for four years and another three years after that to complete my undergraduate studies at California State University, Chico. I have been married to my wife, Cheryl, for 26 years and counting. We have one daughter, Jennifer, who is the light of our lives.
While it is difficult to take the measure of a person without meeting them face-to-face, I hope this brief essay has helped you understand who I am and what I am like. I hope we will have an opportunity to talk and develop a relationship.
