Before becoming a lawyer I spent about 15 years in the Navy.Because I first started as an Enlisted member (achieving E-5 beforebeing sent to college by the Navy) but later became a FullyCommissioned Line Officer I am what you might call a "Mustang."
WhileI was still an enlisted member the Enlisted Warfar qualification (ESWS)had just been started so I was not able to attempt this qualificationas I had already been ordered to college at Oregon State University.
Duringmy time as an Officer I achieved several notable qualifications but thetwo that I am most proud of (and some of the hardest to achieve in theNavy) are Surface Warfare Officer and Officer of the Deck (Underway)which I achieved onboard the aircraft carrier Ranger (CV-61).
Althoughthese 2 qualifications have nothing to do with the law they doillustate vital attention to detail and my ability to master complex(and detailed) concepts. These are directly applicable to DUI cases inCalifornia because of the science and rules involved.
Once I left active service I attended Law School here in San Diego at Thomas Jefferson School of in Law School I was a member of the Mock Trial Team and spentseveral years clerking for the Public Defender's Office where as aPost-Bar Clerk I researched, prepared, filed, argued and won my firstsuppression motion, my first pitchess motion, my first 995 motion, andmy first trial.
After I obtained my license to practice inCalifornia I gained experience by assisting on murder cases, seriousfelonies, and, of course, DUI cases for several years before decidingthat I preferred defending DUI for several reasons including thechallenging science involved.
Here is a list of Specialized Training that I have recieved and organizations that I am a member of:
Also, until recently I was the only San Diego DUI (only) Lawyer accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

Great DUI Attorney
I was charged with my second DUI this July when I got into a car crash and I had blown a BAC of 1.9. I was in violation of my probation from my first DUI and also charged with driving on suspended license. I was very scared and talked to several different attorneys in San Diego and really didn't know...

Great Team with Excellent Results
Michael and his team are the best. They handled my DUI case with professionalism and genuine concern. I was always informed with up to date events, etc and felt like I was the most important case they had. I was able to truly relax during the most difficult challenge of my life. Honesty and a "team" ...
"If you were unfortunately arrested for DUI in San Diego County, you may have the good fortune of speaking with hard-working, honest Michael Richmond. Consider yourself lucky."
"Michael Richmond is the lawyer to go to for DUI defense in San Diego County. He and his staff are knowledgeable, resourceful, talented and very experienced in DUI defense. If I had a DUI anywhere in San Diego, He is the attorney that I would hire. Additionally, he is nothing but straightforward."
"Although I have never met Michael in person I can't tell you enough how much he has helped me over the years on DUI related matters. If I were arrested for a DUI in California I would call Michael first."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. Michael works hard at being the best by regularly attending specialized training and updates on DUI law. This training coupled with his hard work makes him a great attorney to have represent you in your DUI case and I highly recommend him."
"Michael Richmond is thoroughly knowledgeable and experienced in criminal defense, and I would not hesitate to recommend his services."
"Mike Richmond specializes in DUI and DMV matters, particularly in the San Diego area. He is considered by his peers as being among the best DUI attorneys in California, see: http://www.sbdui.com/lawyerlinks.htm Mike’s website reflects his knowledge and personal commitment to meeting the needs of clients, see: http://www.sandiego-dui-lawyer.com/ But most importantly, here is what clients have said about him: http://www.sandiego-dui-lawyer.com/dui-testimonials.htm What these DUI experts and former clients have said about Mike speaks volumes."
"I endorse this lawyer's work as he is an experience lawyer who understands the difference between 'show' and 'results.' Mr. Richmond's extensive education in reviewing the results of testing by the prosecution of a client's BA has resulted in numerous favorable results. Because San Diego is such a large area and each of the branch courts operates differently, it is important to have a lawyer who understands the ebb and flow of the El Cajon courts. While I am no longer in Southern California, my 23 years of practice there and in the El Cajon area leads me to give an unqualifed recommendation to Mr. Richmond and urge you to contact him."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. Michael is a competent and conscientious professional who keeps his client's needs and well-being as his primary focus."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. I worked for Michael Richmond for almost a year. He demands perfection in all aspects of a case and demands that every legal defense be explored. He is truly an advocate for his clients. In many cases Michael insisted that we push for more discovery from the DA's office or wait for other evidence to come in. The wait and hard work paid off as many of the cases were either dismissed or the evidence helped us obtain amazing results. I definitely recommend Mr. Richmond to any person arrested for a DUI."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. Excellent record with clients charged with DUI facing daunting charges, fines, jail time (repeat offenders) -- and Michael gets the best possible results due to his work ethic and tireless fight for his clients. He is well respected amongst his peers and colleagues and is an excellent choice for an attorney."
"Mr. Richmond has shown as a member of the National College for DUI Defense that he is committed to providing cutting edge DUI defense. The National DUI College members represent the most experienced DUI defense attorneys in the country. If you are charged with a DUI, a general practice lawyer is not the answer. Good DUI defense is hard work and few offenses in our court system call for greater attorney expertise than cases involving driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. DUI cases are especially complex because they require defense counsel to understand BOTH scientific and legal issues. As a fellow member of the College, if you are looking for exceptional representation, I would not hesitate to recommend Michael Richmond"
