I was fooled by the reviews on Avvo regarding attorney John T. Sylvester into signing an agreement, but soon recognized that I had fallen into a “money pit” of hidden fees and exorbitant charges. I can only imagine these “good reviews” are coming from. A least from my own knowledge, hiring him and la...w firm he was working for was a horrible experience. He appears more concerned about how much money he can make and I feel like I was over billed and under-represented. It seems as if he is very inexperienced in the practice of law even though he has been to be practicing in San Diego for close to 10 years. He caused me to lose my case. Sylvester’s preparation and performance in the courtroom was irresponsible and negligent. Absolutely the worst attorney I’ve ever worked with.

I hired Cage and Miles and they assigned my case to John who charged $9,159 for his incompetent work. His extremely high hourly rate is not reflected in his skill level. In court, he does not have a strong presence as he lacks quick rebuttals and strong arguments. Not only did he not make any prog...ress on my case, he actually delayed it and set it back. There was a lot of cleanup I had to do. Since he ran through my retainer so quickly with his over-priced and inefficient use of time, I requested that he just represent me on a limited scope. He agreed, but then later reneged without any reasoning. We had an attorney fees request pending and he refused to supply a Cueva Declaration which would have only taken him about 20 minutes to write. I offered to pay him, but he still refused after a month of ignoring my urgent request. John will just run through your retainer with long-winded phone calls where he unnecessarily repeats himself and then, when it comes to court appearances, he looks like a weakling stumbling for words.

John was extremely professional and polite in our consultation and honest. Listened to us, paid attention and addressed our concerns, questions... and formulated a strategy. We retained John and he showed his skill set. Knowledgable of family law, kept the matter from trial. John was extremely professional, but personable with us, all business with our opponent, he explained everything to us and made sure we understood and agreed with the strategy and outcome. He delves deep into the issues and asks questions because he is capable of finding ways to accurately represent his clients that themselves hadn't even thought of that could help their cause. Lizel and Lori have also been a tremendous help during my situation. When legal issues arise, it can become very emotional and draining. Both Lizel and Lori work with the clients in such a way that payment and document processing is a non-issue and one thing that is easy to navigate so as to not burden the clients. They make it very easy to sort those issues out for their clients. Conclusion: I am very happy hiring the office of David C. Beavans, more specifically John T. Sylvester, in representing me for my legal issues. They have gained my trust and confidence that I had made the right decision to hire them for legal matters. I would definitely recommend them.

John Sylvester represented me in a highly contentious divorce. I came to John during an extremely messy and stressful part of my case, when my ex wanted throw out our Divorce Agreement and re-litigate the case. I saw John at he Law Offices of David Beavans. During our initial consultation, he ...quickly understood the gist of my case and proposed a practical plan of action. John was methodical and patient in his approach. For me, John had the utmost professionalism, temperament, demeanor, knowledge, smarts, and experience for the job. I immediately realized what type of lawyer I had in my corner when I saw the first paperwork filed on my behalf. John's Court filings were well written, organized and to the point. Previous case precedents were even cited as supporting documentations to our positions. Amazing. Thankfully, John was able to get my case back on the right track and finalize the Divorce. I am grateful for John's help during this extremely difficult time. The rest of the front office team of Lizel Rosario and Lori Helems were fantastic as well. The office is run efficiently with a touch of kindness. It operates with integrity and does not nickel and dime you with every charge. John and the staff treated me with compassion and respect. Divorce is hard. If mediation doesn't work and you need a great family lawyer, John Sylvester definitely has my highest recommendation.
