Attorney Joel Weissler's goal in founding the Weissler Law Group was, and remains, to touch client's lives by providing the highest level of legal representation in areas which make a difference for clients and their families. He was drawn to estate planning, asset protection and elder law by witnessing how vulnerable families are when things go wrong.
Within his own extended family he has seen devastation wrought by poorly drafted wills and trusts; the conflict that can challenge families when medical decisions haven't been made in advance and must be made; the expense of in home and residential long term care and the progressive feeling of loss which too easily sets in as a loved one and all their unshared memories disappear within Alzheimer's.
Attorney Weissler was drawn to asset protection for families after witnessing too many hard working business owners left broke and devastated, crippled and unable to continue on or make a new start. Joel knows how important it is to protect a business owner's core assets and ability to restart so that their family isn't left paralyzed and devastated.
A father of three, Joel is dedicated to protecting families from the unexpected and from life cycle events. He feels that no one should be forced to lose a lifetime of work to events beyond their control, economic conditions or the expenses of aging.
Attorney Joel Weissler has practiced for over 25 years and is a California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization Certified Tax Law Specialist. After earning his three year law degree in only two years and being admitted to the California Bar, Attorney Weissler earned an LLM in Taxation, Cum Laude from the University of San Diego. In addition to being admitted to practice in all California Courts, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Joel served as a contributing author to the University of California CEB Press Guide to Business Succession Planning. Writing two Chapters focusing on the use of select estate planning tools to reduce tax in the sale or gifting of a business to family members, key employees or outsiders. He later contributed to CEB's multi-volume Estate Planning set. "I endorse this lawyer. I am an experienced elder law attorney in Santa Barbara County. My practice focuses on Medi-Cal for nursing homes and VA non-service connected pensions, but the interpretation of the Medi-Cal rules vary county by county. I contacted Joel as a trusted peer to review my VA asset protection trust that I had drafted for my client who was moving to San Diego. I asked Joel to point out any improvements or changes that could be made for the purpose of San Diego County's treatment of the trust from a Medi-Cal perspective. Joel was thorough, professional, detailed, in depth, prompt, knowledgeable, and clear in his assessment of the trust. His comments and assistance were very valuable to me, and I would highly recommend Joel's character, professionalism, and expertise to other attorneys and to clients. Joel also has the quality of personal warmth and ease, which make him a pleasure to work with."
"I endorse this lawyer. Joel Weissler is extraordinary among lawyers.
