Based in San Diego, California, my law practice has primarily been devoted to legal matters in areas of Family Law and Education. I have nearly 23 years of experience in assisting clients through divorce, child custody disputes, domestic partner marriage and registrations, child and spousal support matters, and adoption. More recently, I have combined my advocacy skills and experience with schools and special needs students to assist families in matters of IEPs, 504s and other educational issues. No matter the circumstances, my priority is to protect what matters most to each client.
As a family lawyer, I understand that my clients—whether facing divorce, financial difficulties, or building a family—are embarking on an uncertain future, often different from one they might have imagined. Because such a significant transition includes emotional and practical concerns, I pay careful attention to my client’s individual needs throughout the legal process. I work diligently to keep stress and legal costs to a minimum by involving my clients in decisions about their case and keeping them informed about all ways to resolve their particular legal matter.
As a parent of a child with a learning challenge, I have recently developed expertise in advocacy for the needs of children with disabilities which affect their learning or functioning in the classroom. In addition to assisting parents in developing a "504" Plan or an "IEP", I coach parents on how to better partner with teachers to improve the child's daily educational experience.
I have a reputation for accessibility and I am known to be a competent, strong and knowledgeable advocate who cares about the people I represent. I am sensitive to the diverse needs and concerns of my clients and offer affordable solutions tailored to each individual situation.

I was really frustrated after reading some of these reviews. Leigh has been extremely supportive and encouraging during this difficult process. She is a matter of fact, tell it like it is kind of person but isn't that the kind of person you want standing up for you in court? Leigh's prices are so rea...

Leigh was not reliable nor did she provide the effort you would expect when dealing with legal issues. I was very open and upfront with her regarding my case and needs as a client, but Leigh couldn't provide the same respect back. After my consultation, which I thought was comforting, I spent money i...

She's very good on billing you for hours that she probably never did considering on how badly she arranged my file. I deeply regret that I had to deal with her. Please do a favor to yourself and AVOID this attorney. Good luck!
I am sorry that this anonymous poster feels this way. Because this person is anonymous, I cannot address the root of his or her concerns. I will also note that all of my clients who engage me for services over $1,000 negotiate a written Fee Agreement with me. The second paragraph states the following: "I invite any and all comments you may have as to the quality of services you are receiving. My goal is to make your legal process easier; and, if that goal is not being achieved, we should discuss how to do things differently." Lastly, my billing contain a notice to contact me within 25 days of the invoice to discuss any concerns about the billing. In short, I do everything possible to encourage communication because I cannot address a concern not brought to my attention. I encourage this anonymous poster to contact me to discuss any concerns he or she has about his or her case.

Leigh Kretzschmar is fair and honest and actually cares about the families she represents. She handled my messy divorce with great attention to detail. She followed up with things in a timely matter and was very very very empathetic, knowing that divorce is extremely traumatic to go through. I real...
