Marie Ann Backes

I don't have much experience with attorneys, but I had an increasingly bad feeling about dealing with Ms. Backes the more we spoke. She's extremely hard to get a hold of, and when we did connect, she spent most of her time on the phone with me talking about her own problems. After I MET HER, to deliv...er paperwork, we managed a phonecall, and she couldn't even remember who I was!! That was the first big impact of bad feeling. Because her quoted fee was significantly lower than almost every other attorney I contacted, I was seriously considering retaining her, even though she has some not pretty obvious faults. BUT then I looked up reviews and saw that other people had the exact same thoughts that I had about her. I got a sinking feeling that I'd be wasting any money I paid her - and this is NOT cheap!!! It's completely break me to throw away a retainer fee.

Ms. Backes was the most unprofessional, unresponsive, and the most frustrating attorney I have ever worked with. She talks a good game and sounds like she knows what she is doing. However, I started working with her in September of last year and was unable to get a final product from her in over six ...months. She quoted a sum for her services, and continued to add additional charges, without producing a product. All I needed was a simple pre-marital agreement. She didn't return my calls, she had one excuse after another, she was out of town, or she was sick, she had requested her associate contact me, etc. Finally, I gave up and am planning to file a complaint with the bar.
