Sarkis Serj Yeretsian

Since I was young, I’ve always looked up to superheroes. Of their many endearing qualities, what I admire most about them was that they always gave their all, no matter the consequence to themselves, to protect cities from incredible, insurmountable forces they couldn’t protect themselves from.

The dedication superheroes have to serve and protect their citizens became so ingrained within me that throughout my childhood I strove to become a superhero. Graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles with honors, I finally realized while I could never develop invisibility or incredible strength, I could harness my natural power of communicating.

During my three years at Loyola Law School, I honed my communication powers serving as the President of the Armenian Law Student Association, Chairman of the National Armenian Law Student Association, and as the youngest Governor on the Armenian Bar Association, I took the time to create a free legal clinic in Hollywood, California for people to come in and ask questions of licensed attorneys for free when they had nowhere else to turn too. I was selected to compete in the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition and I further refined my negotiation skills and pushed our school to the top 16 of 64 competing countries—the furthest out school had ever reached.

Throughout my time at Loyola Law School, I found that the closest way to become a superhero is through the practice of law. Our profession is a noble one that is not to be taken for granted. The vast amount of faith and trust placed within us is of utmost importance, and I look at myself and know that I want to be your voice when you are voiceless.
