Why I started my education law practice:
At the end of 2012, I took the time to reflect on all that I've learned over the past decade and to develop a vision of what I wanted to create over the next 10 years. At the same time, the indescribable Newtown, CT tragedy, which left my heart broken, remained close in mind. As the mother of a nine-month-old at the time, I simply could not stop thinking of the parents who lost their children; and of all parents who must be grieving in the same way. After all, their loss and grief were ours too. I wanted to somehow respond in my own way to help improve my community and create a safer more peaceful world for our precious children. This law practice, which focuses on advancing the educational rights of children with disabilities, is my response. There is nothing more precious in life than children. It is our responsibility as a society and as individuals to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children to feel free to learn, grow, fail and succeed - and hopefully along the way develop into happy individuals. My goal is simple: to help as many children as possible get an education they can access and enjoy to the fullest.

Hidden Gem Attorney. Nothing but Great Experienced.
Better than what we anticipated from a typical attorneys! We hired an Attorney from Rivers Law Firm for helping to deal with the school district regarding placement of our son's NPS/school. We tried tirelessly to communicate to the district to get the help but nothing seemed to be working. District n...

I'm so grateful for Surisa Rivers
I absolutely recommend Surisa Rivers to fight for your children's rights. Most parents don't know or understand what their children are entitled to in order to be successful in school. Was disappointed with service.
I can tell you not to expect her to follow-up for further assistance; once she gets paid, she's done. She will also side with the district during negotiations. Wow, really.
First, I would like to thank you for expressing your experience. I'm very sorry to hear that you felt my office did not provide enough support after your case was settled. My office is unique in that we do agree to provide some follow up after a settlement agreement (without any additional cost to the parents), which most other special education attorneys will not do without additional payment. Although you have posted anonymously and I do not know any details of your child's case, I do want to share that our office's commitment is to advocate for the best services for students with disabilities. Sometimes, however, we are limited in our abilities based on the facts and the law of the case. With that said, Rivers Law, Inc. will never take a school district's side over one of our clients. We do our best to achieve a settlement that is best for the student and that allows the family to move forward in working together with the District. If you would like to further discuss your experience with my firm or need additional help with your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Surisa Rivers
