I already had a lawyer that did my estate plan stuff but he was retiring so I needed to find a new one. The probate process for my father’s estate was poorly handled by the previous attorney I sought out and hired. The process seemed disorganized and took approximately three years; and still resulted in numerous major errors that caused the property to be reassessed at the current market value, instead... of maintaining the base value at the time of my father’s purchase 19 years prior. The backdating of the reassessment to the year my father passed allowed the state to bill me for increased property taxes for all three years the probate was taking place. In the end, the adjusted property tax bills totaled near $30,000 ($10,000/year), versus the original property tax bill of $3000/yr. I was put in touch with Adam by a friend that had a good experience working with him. After having an initial consultation with Adam to describe the situation, he immediately began discussing my options and possible outcomes, both positive and negative.
