I was referred to Morgan, but I have to say that my contact with them was very unpleasant. I called them today to discuss the details. Before I could say much, she quickly interrupted me and told me that she already knew about my family’s case and didn’t need to hear any more. She only wanted me to ...answer whatever she asked. She asked if I had my family member’s medical records. I said no. She then asked if I had the death certificate. I said yes. She told me to take the death certificate and use it to apply for the medical records first, then bring them to her. I said applying for the medical records would take at least a few more days. She replied that it didn’t matter. I told her I didn’t want to wait that long and asked her to trust me, saying that everything I told her was true. She then said that without the medical records, they wouldn’t evaluate whether to take my case at all and would simply close the file. That’s how our conversation ended.I can’t help but think: How can a law firm that fundamentally doesn’t trust its potential clients and isn’t willing to spend even a little time listening to them be entrusted with a case? How can I dare to believe that they would invest the time and effort to uncover the injustice done to you, understand your pain, speak up for you, and fight for justice on your behalf?

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I'm Jim Morgan, and I'm sorry that your first contact with our office left you feeling unheard. That is never how we want a family to walk away. I want to offer some context. We approach every potential case the same way: we investigate before we commit. What can feel like a lack of interest is actually the opposite. Before we ask a family to place their trust in us, we want to be certain we can build a case strong enough to hold a facility accountable. In these cases, the medical records are the foundation. They show what happened, when it happened, and who was responsible. Without them, no honest firm can tell a family whether the case can be proven. Asking for those records is not about believing you or not believing you. It is how we protect families from having their hopes raised on a case the evidence cannot support. Nearly every family we help obtains these records, and our team assists them through each step. I understand this can feel frustrating when you are already carrying so much grief. I hope this explanation gives you some context.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
