Bruce Loren Karey

I have a relative who is now a 68 year old man. When he was 48 years old (in 1994) my uncle, and another man were convicted of 1st degree murder. My uncle wrote his own writ of Habeas Corpus to the 9th Circuit court of appeals. The writ was granted on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct. The c...ase was set to b ase and dismissed the case midway thru trial. After 15 years of wrongful incarceration, my uncle, now 64, went home to his children and grandchildren. He went to the crime scene, brought in witnesses from Bangladesh, and even found missing evidence (after 20 years) After 8 days of trial and 4 witnesses, this special circumstances murder case, tried by LADA Major Crimes Chief, Patrick Dixon, and LADA Prosecutor of the Year (2007) Robert Grace, was DISMISSED! After blistering cross-examination of the Prosecution's witnesses, the DA felt that they could no longer make their case and dismissed the case midway thru trial. My family hired Mr. Karey to represent a family member. My brother is a licensed Real Estate Broker. My brother was allowing our cousin to rent one of the condo residential properties he owned. Our cousin was on federal drug and gun smuggling parole. My cousin began using the condo as a staging p...oint for drug deals. A drug task force arrested our cousin. Later the same task force came into my brother's home, at 2am, and arrested him while he was sleeping. My brother was charged a felony. The task force seized $190,000 cash my brother had in his own condo. Mr. Karey was hired later the same day (approx 20 hours after my brother was arrested). Mr. Karey arranged for a bail bond agent to bail my brother to be bailed out of LA Jail one hour before the DA "faxed" to the jail a "1275 bail hold order". Mr. Karey then was able to postpone the "1275 bail hold order" hearing for over a year. At the conclusion of the "1275 bail hold order" hearing the Judge ruled in my brother's favor and allowed him to remain on bail.. Mr. Karey then lined up alibi witnesses (19 in number), and character reputation witnesses (including my brother's ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law). More importantly, Mr. Karey secured the assistance of the best forensic accountant who was able to prove that my brother had acquired the $190,000 legitimately. Ultimately the DA's office agreed to simply dismiss the charges after a two and a half year fight.

My brother had Mr. Karey as his lawyer in a gang murder, conspiracy to commit murder, shootout with cops case. My brother was supposed to have been the shot-caller. He was the only lawyer to use experts and was the only defense attorney to use a media presentation for closing and opening. He didn't let the judge intimidate him. Judge thought my brother was guilty.
