After going through my own divorce in my early-20s at the Torrance courthouse, I went to law school, became an attorney, and I immediately established a family law office in Torrance to guide other families in their familial breakups. After 10 years of grueling court battles, and after I became a parent to young children, I made a conscientious decision to step away from the courtroom and work with families using mediation and collaborative divorce principles of conflict resolution. I counsel clients about the benefits of mediation and collaborative approaches so they may understand the legal framework and begin to start making cohesive and informed decisions about their children, property, and lives.
In situations in which the family intentionally stays out of court, the end result of the case is typically less stressful, more cost-effective, more quickly resolved, and the family’s privacy can be maintained. I whole-heartedly endorse principles of collaborative divorce and mediation for families whose shared goal is to stay out of court, keep attorney’s fees low, manage the trauma of the breakup in a healthy ways, and preserve and strengthen the family bonds.
I am a member of A Better Divorce, Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association, Collaborative Practice California (CP Cal), International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), and Bruin Professionals. I volunteer as the Family Law Chair of the Board of Directors for the South Bay Bar Association.

Highly dissapointed
To begin, our first court appearance at 8:30, she came in at nearly 12 noon. It was embarrasing - the deputy had to go up and down court rooms looking for her. Never said sorry. My ex husband was able to get 100% legal and physical of our son despite his domestic violence record and Nicole did not...

Fierce advocate and heart of gold
Nicole is an intelligent, kind, and fierce advocate for you especially in dealing with domestic matters in a divorce setting. She has a heart of gold as well as a mind for the law and was always a phone call, email away. When I consulted for my divorce she listened and allowed me to grieve the loss an...

Family & child support court
When I met with Nicole for an initial free consult, I knew she understood a parents frustration while dealing with the family courts. She explains the best way she feels the case should be handled and does her best for faster resolutions vs. a drag out in the court system. Which shows she is not out ...

Exceptional attorney
Nicole Stednitz is remarkably efficient which is reflected in her performance as an attorney and in her productivity. Nicole is VERY effective at handling the opposing counsel during mediation and I noticed she wrote over 80% of the global settlement right there in the courthouse. She tactfully ...

So easy!
Working with Nicole made our lives so much easier during this trying time trying to get a clear custody order for my husband's daughter. Nicole was very professional and sensitive to our family. She was a great listener and was very clear and straight forward. I would definitely hire her if needed in...
You and your husband were a pleasure to work with, as well. I wish your family nothing but the best!
"Nicole was opposing counsel on a very contentious domestic violence restraining order case which went to a full hearing in court. She an excellent family law attorney who represents her clients with professionalism and integrity. She is a dedicated advocate both in and outside the courtroom. As a testament to her abilities, I have referred cases to her since then."
"Nicole was opposing counsel on one of my cases. She stepped in for a previous opposing counsel who did not do a good job on the case in terms of moving the case towards an efficient resolution. Once Nicole subbed in, we were able to move the case towards a fair and efficient settlement for both sides. I look forward to working with her again in the future."
"I worked with Nicole on a particularly difficult guardianship matter. She handled all aspects of the case extremely well and efficiently. The client and I both were impressed with Nicole's performance. I highly recommend her."
"I endorse this lawyer. She has been a great attorney for both myself and my clients. She is extremely professional and stays up to date on changes in the law, which makes her an extremely knowledgable and qualified attorney."
