Patrick Soon is a corporate, entertainment, technology, and intellectual property law attorney serving as Senior Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs at the Los Angeles office of Square Enix, a publicly-traded video game and digital media company which generates over 2 billion USD in annual revenue. Best known for its video game franchises of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and the legendary Space Invaders, Square Enix employs over 4000 employees throughout a global network of game development and publishing offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Montreal, London, Beijing, Shanghai, and Tokyo.
Prior to his role at Square Enix, Patrick worked in two boutique intellectual property litigation law firms in Orange County, CA. There, he counseled clients on trademark availability, selection, enforcement, and all aspects of trademark prosecution including inter-parties proceedings before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Patrick also advised on copyrights, obtained copyright registrations on behalf of his clients, and litigated intellectual property and business matters (including pretrial investigation, motion practice, discovery, witness preparation, and trial work). He also worked on a confidential short-term litigation project at the Google headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Patrick's hard work and dedication to activities promoting diversity and leadership have helped him achieve prestigious awards (including those from the American Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association) and obtain speaking invitations from well-known institutions (such as UCLA, USC, Loyola, and the University of British Columbia).
