Matthew was there for me during a very stressful two-year divorce proceeding, always promptly returning phone calls and emails. I came to Mr. Skarin's office as referral from a friend, in what I felt was a desperate situation. My ex-husband, who was thousands of dollars in arrears, decided to sue me for custody of 1 of our 2 kids that are still under 18. In his filing he stated as I have a medical marijuana letter of recommen...dation, I was unfit to care for our children as I did drugs. Mr. Skarin reassured me that I wasn't going to lose my children due to occasional usage of MMJ, nor would I be likely to lose them at all as my ex had chosen to have very little contact over the years with our kids. I have done everything needed to help our kids, including fighting the school district to get help for one of our kids that has learning disabilities and requires a lot of attention between the school and I. My ex wasn't even aware of all the plans and help the school did to help our child, as he so rarely had contact with our kids and just completely ignored any attempts on my part to keep him updated. It was a long and much drawn out process due to my ex, but Matthew Skarin was fantastic. He kept pushing both my ex and his lawyer who tended to be as flaky as my ex, and not only helped me to retain sole legal and physical custody of my children, but he managed to get my ex to commit to a visitation schedule over holidays and summer break as he lives in a different state. For over 10 years I was getting phone calls at the last minute, asking if he could have the kids, if he decided he wanted to see them that year. I had always asked him months in advance if he was going to take the kids but usually got no response. There have been many years he has chosen not to see them at all, so it was important to me that we get a set schedule so our kids could see and get to know their dad better. That Mr. Skarin got him to commit to a schedule was huge deal to me - and for which I am hugely grateful to him. But hands down, by far, besides being super supportive and always making sure I was in the loop, was that he was able to prove to the Court that my ex was over $100,000 in arrears in back child support. My ex was trying to claim he had over paid me child support and I owed him $10,000. Many documents and bank statements later, he began to realise how much he really did owe and lucky for him, I was agreeable to settling for less than $100,000. Mr. Skarin took our proposal and got my ex and his lawyer to agree to it. Mr. Skarin handled everything and filed all the paperwork through the Dept. of Child Support Services (as I had years ago had to put a garnishment on his wages to get the child support he was supposed to be paying - but obviously wasn't). He also was able to get an additional garnishment on his wages to start paying me the amount we had agreed on for back child support. So over the course of a year, I went from being sued for custody as an unfit mother, to retaining sole custody AND Mr Skarin got me thousands of dollars in back support that I honestly never thought I would get. Talk about a turn around!! I can tell you my ex wasn't pleased with any of the results, but I was over the moon! It amazes me to this day how it all worked out in my favor AND that he got me the back child support I honestly never thought I would see, as I had made other attempts over the years with different lawyers to get him to pay what he owed his kids in back support. I highly recommend Mr. Matthew Skarin to represent you. He's knowledgeable, keeps you well informed - but not so much that you get huge bills from him for the time he spends on your case. He stays on top of things and keeps on the other party when they drag their feet and seem to be trying to avoid you and the courts. I know I feel like I got very good value for my money, and in the world of lawyers, you know how rare that is. He is definitely worth it.
