I am in Awe of Attorney Robert Helfend. Attorney Helfend changed my family's life. Because of Attorney Helfend my son will graduate from CSUN in December 2019. Before meeting Attorney Helfend my family's spirits had almost been broken by the words of those in the public defenders office.After Nine mo...nths of the public defender's office giving no good outcome a miracle happened. I am FORTUNATE to have known Attorney Robert Helfend for over 25 years. UNFORTUNATELY for ME, I required his services 25 years ago because I got myself into trouble with a violent, (now ex)-wife. After posting bail, I was LUCKY to select Attorney Helfend from a dizzying array of attorneys (in the t...hen “Yellow Pages”- remember, 25 years ago). I telephoned his office and was treated cordially and with respect when requesting his representation. I hired Mr. Helfend without hesitation. When I did meet with Attorney Helfend, he was a confident, no nonsense young man- and I was very impressed with his demeanor as well. If you ever find yourself in the position I was facing, you will comprehend the gravity of the importance of the aggressive confidence Attorney Helfend presented. This is EXTREMELY important in an attorney. NOT arrogance, NOT wishy-washy, or ill prepared (as I have had some experience with in a civil case in which I lost). Under Attorney Helfend’s guidance & leadership, we prevailed in my criminal case with a ruling of exoneration, case dismissed. Fast-forward 25 years, and no further brushes with the law; I was interested in exercising my 2nd Amendment right to purchase a firearm. Pursuing due diligence, I submitted a PFEC (personal firearm eligibility check) to the California DOJ. To my horror and dismay, I got a reply stating I was “ineligible” to purchase or possess. Anyone who has had to deal with the California DOJ, knows this to be an undesirable endeavor... red tape, bureaucracy, and delays. I quickly submitted an inquiry of my criminal record to the FBI and the results indicated no reason for the “ineligible” status. No convictions- which was accurate. I then realized I found myself in a similar situation as 25 years ago. I needed an attorney. You shouldn’t be surprised that my FIRST thought was of Attorney Helfend. Thankfully, I found he was still practicing law in the area and I called to discuss my case. He quickly returned my call and we began strategizing a plan of attack. Admittedly, Attorney Helfend’s forte is criminal law, but it is his wisdom and calculating talent that provided a path to an excellent resolution of my 2nd Amendment status from “ineligible” to “eligible” with the California DOJ. Since then, I have successfully, legally, made 2 separate firearm purchases, with no issues what-so-ever. It feels good to be treated as a citizen with ALL my U.S. Constitutional rights. I found this guy on the internet,i also did my homework on him..Like others my story wasnt so happy. I take full responsibility for my crime BUT.....this guy had me depressed,then happy,then depressed and so fourth..he told me everything we be ok and that he would get me 6 months house arrest. In all... reality he bought time till my oldest was 18 yrs of age so that she may care for my kids while i was in custody..When it was time for court i didnt see or hear a Fight in him nor a Defense. I paid what he asked for when i couldve just had a public defender..Since ive bern out of custody i have yet been able to reach him nor get a returned phone call. Im glad to read and see that most of you were satisfied with his profession.

Robert Helfend represented my case from start to end. He literally drove out to meet with me in person several times and handled my case in a very professional manner in which he always told me the truth and what to expect. Several years ago, I made a mistake and was willing to face my penalties but ...not without professional help. Since I have never broken any laws, this was my first time offence. Robert Helfend was able to keep me out of prison, and pro-long the case enough for me to make proper arrangements. At the end I pleaded guilty and instead of serving years of prison time, I was given the following: 1. One year of "in-house" jail which is a local community near my home where I was able to continue to go to work but live at this apartment looking complex 2. make restitution payments back to company I took from 3. of course 3 years probation 4. eligible for felony to be reduce to misdemeanor upon all conditions met especially paying back all restitution. I followed all the court obligations and after three years Robert Helfend represented me again for my pen code 1203.4 and got my sentence reduce from felony to misdemeanor.
