Biography
Mr. Herrera was born in Los Angeles and raised in Koreatown, just west of Downtown. Mr. Herrera attended and graduated from California State University, Northridge with a bachelor’s degree in History. Thereafter, he attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2012 with a Juris Doctorate degree.
While at Thomas Jefferson, Mr. Herrera interned at the San Diego Alternate Public Defender’s Office, where he was involved in all aspects of juvenile criminal matters. As an intern, he argued several motions as a certified legal intern under the supervision of an attorney and counseled clients in English and Spanish.
In addition, Mr. Herrera clerked for Justice Terry O’Rourke of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division One. He reviewed and researched law briefs and helped develop research and writing strategies for draft opinions. He assisted in drafting two opinions for the Court.
Upon graduation, Mr. Herrera worked at the Law Offices of William R. Burgener, a private criminal defense attorney with over thirty years of experience. As a post-graduate law clerk, Mr. Herrera drafted trial court motions and appellate briefs for submission in both state and federal court. He primarily dealt with DUI, drug possession and smuggling, and illegal entry cases.
Mr. Herrera also worked for a CPA/attorney in North County San Diego as a post-graduate law clerk. During that time, he helped represent clients in tax matters before the FTB, EDD, and IRS. He helped draft estate plans, including trusts, powers of attorney, and advanced healthcare directives. He also administered an irrevocable trust with a net worth over $2 million.
After living in San Diego for several years, Mr. Herrera decided to return back home to Los Angeles to be closer to his family and provide legal services to the community where he grew up. Mr. Herrera handles criminal defense, personal injury, and estate planning matters using the experience he gained at these prestigious Southern California law offices.
