Mr. Curtis is a shareholder practicing primarily from the Las Vegas office and joined Thorndal Armstrong in 1996. He maintains and manages a progressive statewide civil trial practice, mostly in a general liability and specialty insurance defense context, in both state and federal court. He brings 26 years of trial experience to his practice areas which include retail, gaming and other premises liability, construction defect, transportation, medical malpractice, professional errors and omissions, first party bad faith, motorsports, and personal injury defense. His representative clients include some of Nevada's largest gaming properties, retail chains, construction companies, communication providers, rental car agencies and insurers. In addition, Mr. Curtis frequently serves as both a private arbitrator and mediator, and also as a panel member of the Clark County Court-Annexed Arbitration Program, has presided over 600 hearings to date. With this experience, Mr. Curtis was recently appointed to serve as a Pro Tempore Judge assigned to the Eighth Judicial District Short Trial Program.
Mr. Curtis is frequent lecturer, author, and volunteer. In addition to multiple articles, he is the co-author of the Depositions and Discovery Chapter in the Nevada Civil Practice Manual, the author of the Construction Law Compendium published for the USLAW Network, the co-editor of Nevada Law Summary for A.M. Best Digest, and also serves as the head of the firm's Publication Committee. Mr.Curtis is proud to serve as the firm's Pro Bono coordinator, and through the Legal Aid Center of Las Vegas's Children's Attorney Project provides counsel, advice and representation to abused and neglected children. He also is dedicated to the charitable initiative of the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games. Mr. Curtis is a Las Vegas native and with his family enjoys racing, fishing, mountain biking, climbing and basketball. He is very active in off-road racing and races Ford trucks in the deserts of the Southwest United States and Baja Mexico. Over the last 30 years, Mr. Curtis has raced in almost every 4 wheel desert class and as a driver and codriver has shared in multiple SCORE and BITD class championships and wins in Stock Full, Stock Mini, Pure Stock Mini, Class 3, Class 8 and Unlimited Trophy/Trick Truck, including the 2007 BITD Trick Truck Championship. In the spring of 2010, he was one of a team of three drivers of a vintage Ford Bronco to race from Mexicali to La Paz, finishing second place in the inaugural NORRA Mexican 1000, a reenactment of the 1967 Baja 1000.
