I was sent to a debt collector by a doctor's office because of miscommunication. I owed the dr roughly $500 and was making payments. They stopped invoicing me and sent me to collections. The debt collector set up a payment plan for me. I reluctantly signed the forms and began paying them $50/month. D...uring the holidays, I overlooked a payment, but doubled up the following month when I realized. Instead of working with me, they threatened to garnish my wages and wouldn't accept anything less than $400/month for three months. So, my $500 to the dr turned into $1200 to the debt collector. I have even referred a friend to her as well and hope she is successful with them as well.
