Alyssa Marie Aklestad

I had no intention of making my first ever review a negative one, but I was compelled to say this about this firm: STAY. AWAY. STAY AWAY!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! I feel the need to warn everyone about this law firm. McKellar Law receives one star specifically due to their very aggressive billing tactics. ...Alyssa Aklestad was my attorney and, Dawn is her current paralegal. There are many reasons that I was put off my this firm. It was apparent that they would cram for my case for just a few minutes before meetings with the opposing party or court hearings. This led me to believe that they did not know the main points of my case and would wing it. Also, their chosen strategy drained multiple retainers which resulted in nothing but a huge bill. A main issue was for the opposing party to follow the current court order, which should have been simple. The multiple phone calls to set up these meetings and then the meetings themselves would cost nearly $1000.00 each time. Alyssa requested further meetings, which would cost even more money. No motions were ever filed against the other party for the numerous offenses they committed. The meetings accomplished nothing. The only people that benefited from the meetings were the lawyers getting paid. The other party continued to violate the court order multiple times after. Then, McKellar law firm would accept calls from the other party after the meetings simply to talk about the meetings. After receiving a $700 bill, I was contacted by Dawn, the paralegal, and not allowed to speak to Alyssa until I put down another retainer. I was told my case would not be worked on until I did so. I paid my balance and gave instructions not to work on my case or bill me for anything else. Yet it turns out I was billed for telling them not to bill me, and some other mysterious charges dated before I paid my balance off yet popped up after I paid my balance. I was also billed for coming in without an appointment just to pay my bill and try to pick up my case because I was done. I was also billed for the back and forth emails that were my requests telling them not to work on my case. My emails were responded to days later. Alyssa Aklestad and/or Mckellar were never available for me to discuss my bill with them. This is not the way to treat any type of client, and if you go with this firm this is how you might be treated as well. I feel robbed, violated and by this firm that I hired to protect and represent me. Save your money and time. STAY AWAY!!! You will need to devote a good amount of time double-checking their billing statements to avoid unnecessary charges.

From day on Alyssa was up front and honest about my case and made me feel like I knew I was in good hands. She's very knowledgeable and doesn't take any BS. She will fight hard to help her clients get what they need. She truly cares and will do all she can for her clients best interests. I would reco...mmend her as an attorney to anyone and everyone.
