He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law, where he is a member of the Order of the Coif.
Dave's achievements have been recognized throughout the legal community. Most recently, he was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 25th edition of The Best Lawyers in America© for his work in two practice areas - Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Commercial Litigation. He was also recognized by his peers as the 2018 Albuquerque Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights Insolvency and Reorganization Law "Lawyer of the Year." This is his fifth year of recognition by the organization.
Dave was named a Top Rated Lawyer for Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy in 2013, a Southwest Super Lawyer in 2009 and 2012-2019, and, in 2011, was named Best of the Bar/Bankruptcy by New Mexico Business Weekly. He has consistently received the highest rating for professional abilities and ethics (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell, a legal rating service, for more than 15 years.
He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of New Mexico, Independent Community Bankers Association, and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. Outside of work Dave believes in giving back to the community. To this end, he is active in St. Stephens' United Methodist Church, where he is the immediate past chair of the Leadership Council and has chaired the finance ministry and the Capital Funds Campaign. He also enjoys playing golf, biking, watching sports (especially the KU Jayhawks) and cooking.
A New Mexico attorney since 1983, Dave treats his clients with concern, compassion and exceptional legal abilities. During his 36 year career, he has represented secured and unsecured lenders, debtors, trustees, creditors' committees and receivers in farm and non-farm bankruptcy cases in New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, and Delaware. He has also handled real estate and personal property foreclosure matters. Dave is a firm believer in the idea that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so he encourages his lender clients to have him involved before loans are made to make sure that documentation is correct and collateral perfection is achieved.
