Biography
I have practiced law in Tucson for over 35 years. My private practice focuses on criminal defense, including homicide, sex offenses, vehicular homicide and DUI. I have personally defended over one hundred jury trials, including many of Tucson’s high profile criminal prosecutions.
Being charged with a criminal offense is among the most serious problems a person will ever face, involving possible loss of freedom, career, and precious reputation. I am determined to provide individual attention and the most thorough and aggressive defense possible to each client.
In 1994, I was selected Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. I have been listed in Best Lawyers of America since 2000, and am listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and Southwest Super Lawyers.
I have lectured throughout the state to attorneys, and others, on legal topics. I am the co-host of the annual seminar on defending vehicular and DUI offenses. I have been the co-host and speaker at that seminar for 30 years. I have spoken to other defense organizations, and the State Bar, on a wide variety of topics involving criminal defense, including witness interview techniques, cross examination, and pretrial investigation.
I am also interested in the Arizona Public Records law, and have spoken to jounalists, and others, on the broad reach of the public records law. I am particularly interested in the Puiblic Records law as an invaluable tool in criminal defense. I recently successfully represented a private investigator when the Pima County Sheriff sought to prevent him from using the public records law to investigate an alleged sex offense.
